We have won 6 quarters out of 8 vs Dogs this year, we need to improve on that only slightly.

They are in disarray, cut out all the bs challenging them from Smorgon and Eade we need to pressure them early and kick long into the forward line.

We need to go defensive on their half back runners Gilbee etc. Cooney dropped his bundle on Friday night we need to hit him hard early.

We can win the taps lock it up or jag it quickly to Goodes and co, if we play reasonably they cannot contain our forward line, don't see their way to goal except for the free kicks Johnno will keep staging for.

Go Bloods we have a real opportunity to make our 4th prelim in 6 finals.

The results this year show that we need to:

      1. Hold the doggies in the second quarter. Arising from the two matches played this year between the two teams, in the second quarters, the Dogs lead the Swans by an incredible 15 goals to 2!!

      2. Lead at half time. This year the Swans have led at half time 9 times, and have never thereafter lost the game.

Perhaps we should also try to kick more than 6 goals by half time. This year we have kicked 6 goals or less by half time on 13 occasions, winning just 3 of them. When we kick 7 goals or more, we have won on all 10 occasions.

Nice stat NMW,lets just hope we can kick more than 6.If we end up around the 50 point mark by half time i reckon we will win.

I usually want to play a team at full strength, but in finals time that goes by the wayside a tad... I really like Robert Murphy and I think he is a guy that could absolutely turn a final on its ear.

I don't care if they take clean possession, as long as it keeps moving forward and in the Swans possession.

Everitt has to go if we're serious about winning.

Maybe someone's said this elsewhere ... but SURELY the Swans won't pick Peter Everitt this week?

                  He's a liability we can't afford.

                    Here's an interesting (concerning?) stat:

Sydney hasn't won a night game in Melbourne since round 9, 2006. That match was against Hawthorn at the MCG. Since then we've lost 6 in a row.

Just a bad run of luck or is there something else to it?

Stuff the stats - if we do all the basics well we should win.

To win against the Dogs we must...

...play with confidence and kick to advantage.

To be honest i don't think we play the MCG very well due to it being much larger than what we are used to, but you have to adapt and surely if Sydney can adapt to Subiaco the biggest playing field in the land then we should know how to work our gameplan to affect on the MCG.

Smash them at the centre clearances and put their backline under severe pressure.

Certainly the Hawks showed if you can pressure there backline they make crucial errors by hand coming off halfback, handballs missed targets just about everytime and they built up to Hawthorn goals.

Two weeks ago I would have said that, but his last two games have been very good. He may be hitting form at just the right time. He's still far from dominating, but he's doing his job.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

3 of those night games have been against the Pies. 2 last year at the 'g and one this year at TD.
Rd 1 this yr against the Saints, was by 2 points, and we very rarely start the year well.
Don't remember the other 2 games.
Not a very convincing stat, Hammo.
