Many reasons for the loss but...

Bevan on Rob Murphy absolutely killed us...

I don't know what Roos was thinking. Murphy had him on the lead and overhead all night. He kept the Bulldogs in the game in the first half and clearly got inside Bevan's head... as he made mistake after mistake coming out of the backline in the 3rd (errant handpass and kick come immediately to mind).

This should have been Teddy's man every day of the week...

It wasn't the only reason we lost, but Bevan having his worst game of the year didn't help. He got absolutely killed by Murphy.

Bevan's worst game of the year? Are you serious? I honestly thought Bevan was one of our better players. Murphy was good, yes, but Murphy is a @@@@ing star. The matchup probably wasn't great, he was a little too tall and agile for Bevo, but I didn't think Bevan did much wrong. Sure Murphy killed him on the lead, but Bevo worked off him well, and was able to have an influence on the rebound. Murphy had 16 possessions, 11 marks and 3 goals. Bevan had 18 possessions (8 contested), 8 marks, 5 tackles and a goal. I'd take that result from that matchup any day of the week.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I didn't think Bevan was that bad and, if he was, then he wasn't alone. The missed tackle that led to Murphy's first goal was a shocker though.

I hope we have the tackling bags out over summer because some of our tackling this season has been appalling.

I agree, I don't have any real problem withe Bevan's performance last night (there were mistakes - as there always is, but that is football).

Hopefully Kennelly will get his shoulder fixed and actually be able to use his arms next year - he just wasn't physically capabale of laying a decent tackle and made us a bit fragile in defence (Eski was a bit similar too).

But the team as a whole really need to get up to speed with the arm tackles that Collingwood and Geelong etc have put to such good use this year. Once tackled players had little opportunity other than to dispose of the ball illegally.

Murphy quite clearly had it all over Bevan and was a major factor in their win giving them an entry to their F50. Given we had little rebound for much of the night I think it's a stretch to say that Bevan worked well off him and was able to balance up the matchup. Murphy was a matchwinner and Bevan struggled - not a good tradeoff.

Not sure what game you were watching. Bevan's been good this year because he's improved his defence (and consistently beaten his opponent) AND he's become more attacking than in previous years. Last night he not only lost almost every one-on-one contest he was in, but he also added nothing to attack. His disposal was poor.

He wasn't the only one to have a bad night, but his opponent was just about the most damaging of all the Bulldogs - and not only that, but he was the one who kept them in the game when we were on top in the first half.

So yeah, it was his worst game of the year.

Bevo was rated 2nd only to Barry Hall by 1 point. 125 to 124.From what I saw he was eventually moved mid way through the 3rd Q. Kicked 1 goal 2 points. The next was Mattner on 95 so I guess if Bevo had his worst game for the season 20 others did likewise.

Granted Murphy got the better of Bevo , though you seriously havent watched enough football , it wasnt his worst game of the year.

The Unholies watched the game at club swans and thanks to Wardy had a great spot. We had a spare chair at our table, which I was saving in case my nephew turned up. A lady came over and asked us if it was spare and I said that as my nephew was unreliable and young (so could stand if nec) she could have it as long as she supported the swans, her response was "support the swans we do more than that". Turned out the chair was needed for Bevo's mum
At one point Bevo turned the ball over and it resulted in a goal, I turned to say something to Wardy and caught Mrs Bevo with her head in her hands. Must be hard to watch a game when you are more emotionally involved than mere supporters.

Seemed a strange match up but the reason we lost was that we weren't good enough.

Murphy is a bloody genius footballer, and the best is yet to come from him.

He would have torn up just about anyone last night, you could see that he was on. Bevo will learn from that.

The problem for the team has been the midfield. When we get belted as we did last night it simply doesn't matter who was on murphy. critically we need some better players in the midfield as we are struggling there.

Having said that I do not believe bevan should be played on murphy or LRT on Buddy Franklin/Travis Cloke. If Bevan is playing in the back half to be the sweeper he shouldn't be playing on their best lead up forward. If he is playing as a key defender on their best lead up forward we are in serious trouble come leo's retirement and the slide which will inevitably happen with bolton. Bevan's best games are on forward pockets who are a little slow. Thats not the position murphy plays

Likewise LRT can't play on those type of players succesfully.
