developed into one our best players, and finally living up to expectations.
Is a valuable contributer on the scoreboard, but now has to deal with being tagged and expectations of fans and the club. I think he would be our most improved this year, and i would expect further improvement next year. One of the best stories of the swans year is his rise.
Break-out year for McVeigh, voted an 8; lost a point for not abiding by Swan's grooming standards and having a head of golden hair (or any hair at all for that matter)
A make-or-break year for McVeigh and he has stepped up to become the club's most improved player and a consistent performer in the midfield.
He greatly improved his form when compared to last year in disposals (avg. 19.5 in 2008 vs. 13.8 in 2007), goals (1.3 vs. 0.5 per match), tackles (3.1 vs. 2.3) and a more favourable free-kick count. Though his disposal count is quite low for a midfielder, he more than made up for it in his tackling pressure, better decision making, more effective disposals and kicking goals when it counted.
He kicked 32 goals (behind Hall and MOL) including 4 goals against Carlton and 6 goals against the Bulldogs in what was his best game of his career (along with 26 disposals). He also picked up a career-high 28 disposals twice (against St. Kilda and Brisbane) this year and 20+ touches at least half of his games this year. In 2007, he had about 2-3 games that were considered good to great. In 2008, he's only had about 2-3 bad games with the first ordinary game against Melbourne in Round 13.
McVeigh has greatly improved from last year, he should poll well in the B&F, TLM and certainly get more than 1 Brownlow vote that he got last year.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore
I gave him an 8. The biggest improver for the team this season and showed class in the midfield and also showed he's capable of chipping in with goals, most notably his 6 against the Dogs in Canberra. Have to remember he is only 23 with plenty of seasons left in him and plenty of improvement as well.
Pretty much like his brother has simply taken a bit longer to make it.
Never doubted that Jarred would become a solid on baller and we can build a new midfield around him.
32 goals and 17 assists is something we have not had for a little while and hopefully he can back it up again next year.
Will go close in the B/F and should be pretty happy with his break out year.
Don't know what you people expect but this guy has been our stand out player all year round. He couldn't of done more to silence his critics (Me included). He is now one of the premier midfielders in the comp. The one Porsche nestled in amongst the Cortina's and going along just beautifully IMHO.
To be really consistent is a big deal in my book, given different opponents and conditions. He has had plenty of experience at 23 yo, and it showed this year.
When you consider where he was at the end of last year, easily warrants a 9. I always thought he would find his feet as a small forward. Seems I was wrong. He has turned into a genuine midfield star. Sure, not a superstar yet. Nowhere near, but he has moved into that group of players that are real standouts for their side. Hopefully, he'll be able to back it up next year.
love the guy, but why did he not play on ...you know when I am talking about and he missed the kick, it was a real turn in the game....
I have no question he would ahve got it if he had played on
That was unbelievably stupid, he had taken the mark, his opponent had run past, and he was metres in the clear. And easy goal, turned into a stupid point.
I was screaming fruitlessly to play on.
8/10. Would have been 9 or even 10 but he didn't perform when it counted. I thought he had a very poor game against the Dogs and unfortunately that when it matters most.
Still he had an awesome season in general. Great to see an average player blossom into such a star. Can't wait to see how he backs it up in 09.
Compared to my 0.123 from last year, a considerable improvement.
I will step out on a limb (and eat heartily from words of last season) and say Swans Most Improved Player 2008.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
