    Any AFL grounds near Croydon?

    Hi Everyone,

I need your help. Every year for Grand Final day for the past few years I help get a bunch of mates together for a friendly AFL game before the GF, and then watch it together afterwards. We always have a great day; the only requirements are that you are over 25 (or just not so fit), not a great footballer, and prepared to have fun.

For the past few years we have played at Picken Oval in Croydon in the morning, then watch the big game at Western Suburbs Australian Football Club. The only problem is, we have just found out that the ground will be used for a Korean Food Festival this weekend!

Any suggestions? Hopefully something that won't be used for cricket this weekend, and something reasonably close to the Inner West.

    Thanks.

I think there is an Aussie Rules oval in Concord on Queens Rd. Just off Broughton Street.

I always drive past it. Not too sure if there is a game on though.

Fellow Inner Westie here! Drummoyne represent!

Thanks Jeffers, but from looking at google maps / satellite it looks like there's a cricket pitch there. Might be able to get a friend to check it out properly though.

        Any other suggestions???

Maybe Wagener Oval in Ashfield? just up the road from Picken.

Yep, but in Ashbury not Ashfield.

wagener oval, ashbury - Google Maps

And you're still only a v. short walk or drive from the Rules Club to watch the game. It's still under Canterbury Council control as well if you want to book it.

                  Always mix those two up.

                    Jubilee Oval at Glebe.
                    Top spot.

Public transport is easy ... catch a train to Central then the tram from Central. Stops right at the goal posts!!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Pretty sure the posts are down already for cricket @ Jubilee Annie.

I'd have a game of Aussie Rules, dunno how to play AFL.

Just too old and slow now. I'd need to be rotated to the bench like going through a revolving door.

Have a good day. Unfortunately there's no non-Vic teams in the AFL GF so it's ho-hum, who cares. Won't bother watching.
