Different sort, but that may be something.

Kicking a ball into touch in rugby and hitting a target in AFL are quite different skills.

To be a rugby fullback you must be a very good kicker and have safe and quick hands.he maybe ok but there are much better rugby players around Australia that would keep him out of a team.I hope he go's ok time will see.

I played in NSW in an AFL team that consisted of 50% ex players from south of the border and the rest were soccer and rugby league converts. The soccer players converted much quicker. They had a sense of forward play and doing the one ,two plays that rugby players totally lacked. They could also kick more accurately. The funniest sight I remember from those days was this big rugby player all by himself on the wing, plenty of time and room and he kicks the ball out of bounds on the full!! The rugby players gave away far more frees and threw the ball in a pressure situation!

They brainwash them in rugger circles as kids "when in doubt, kick it out"

Kicking will be the last of his worries. Many rugger players can even use both feet too.

Mike Pyke not listed as an international rookie, or any other reference, on the 1st list lodgement posted on the AFL website. Could be an error (AFL website - probable) or has yet to be nominated (wait for 2nd list lodgement) or he is not coming!

                    Cheers

Don't think Coney was listed either.

He has to wait to be taken in the rookie draft, doesn't he? As in, we already have him, but we have to wait until the rookie draft takes place before he is actually put on our list. At least, that's what I thought. Same with Coney.

But clubs pre-nominate those players so they aren't available to all in the draft.

The list of dates in Triple's thread in the General AFL forum gives a few different times for pre-nominations, though. One is yesterday's date but it seems you have until early December to finalise these pre-nominations.

Still no Pyke listed as of the 2nd list lodgement yesterday.

The article on the AFL website yesterday states:

"All 16 clubs were required to trim their lists to a maximum of 35 players by that first deadline [31 October 2008] including rookie, New South Wales and international scholarship player transactions."

                            Maybe he is not comming.

Regarding Cooney, as an Irish player, where an agreement has been reached the club can nominate him prior to the rookie draft and he is guaranteed a rookie spot.

                            Cheers

System works exactly the same way for Pyke as for Coney.

Unless something has changed in the last two weeks, my mail is that he's still on his way onto the list for next season.
