I am pleasantly surprised. I was sure that Roos was choosing to go at the end of 2009.

The best thing about Paul Roos, (besides his calm intelligence), is the way young players respond to his coaching style. On paper blokes like Barlow, Bird, Jack, Veszpremi are all unknowns, none of them top 10 draft picks. However Roos has a way of getting the most out of these young players. Then there are the so call rejects from other clubs. Richards, Jolly, Playfair, Craig Bolton, etc. Another example of how Roos can lift players.

        Really good news.

PS The success of Paul Roos as a coach should be put into this context:
Roos has been at the club now as Senior coach for 6 years and 3 months. The equivalent stage (that is 6 years and 3 months) for Rodney Ede would have been June 2002. Under Ede the Swans of course played in a Grand Final and made the finals in every full season under his coaching bar one, that is, 5 full seasons out of a possible 6. Hypothetically, how would the fans be feeling if Ede in June 2002, had just received a three year extension to his coaching contract?

Eade was angry and stressed by the this stage and it flowed through to the players. Roosy's style is more conducive to longevity

There are a few coaches whose positions are far from secure. I would think Melbourne and Freo are on notice; Richmond, although doing much better, are still suffering from dubious list management; and Essendon need to improve considerably next season or their coach will be on shaky ground. I think the question for Horse must be about his management of the midfield.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I thought Roosy might pull the pin at years end.

Wrapt though that he is going to go with the transition period with the kids and older blokes at the end of some of their careers.
Roosy is the man for us and with some tinkering of our outdated game plan, Im sure we will be at a competative best for a while yet.

                On ya Roosy !!

Great to hear. Just hope he tinkers with the game plan to be more attacking.

You would expect there is a chance he will be on the move. If he has no chance with us until 2012 then if I was him I would be looking for experience at another club to see how another coach does it. Nothing like a cross section of ideas and experiences.

now for Roosy to clean out the wardrobe! I reckon Horse could go elsewhere with this.

Will depend on which coaches are sacked next year. My money is on MM.

                            Fantastic news.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Geez (and I know I will be yelled at by some for saying this - but do I care - nah!) I was hoping that Roos would take his leave at the end of next year - in that time Lethal Leigh Matthews will have had a years rest and relaxation - be fresh again and wanting to get back in the coaching saddle. Either Lethal or Sheeds - some say they may be too old - did anyone think that about Barassi when he came up here? I dont think Longmire has what it takes to be honest. Or alternatively they could go in another direction and get Scott Burns on board after having a short stint as assistant coach at West Coast. (well if Voss can be made senior coach of the Lions without having any coaching experience at all - why couldnt Burns be an option for the Swans) Oh well we wait and see - I wonder what "innovative" thing Roos will come up with next year - 22 team captains maybe - one for each round, or herbal tea in the drink bottles, quarter time yoga - he will come up with something I'm sure.
