Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

      1. Sadly past it Im afraid and Im glad he retired. Came to Sydney a year too late. IMO if we had of got him @ the end of 05 we would of went back to back. But thats footy.

Far from a dud, but played on for a couple years too long.

Thought he was good for us in '07 - better than a lot of other people thought. Struggled this year after not having much of a pre-season but thought he was important in our win against the Eagles over there.

Great player over the journey and like everyone, I wish we'd got him at the end of '05.

If the stories were true about the development work he did with the young talls then we certainly got our $$ worth out of him - worth the gamble in my view.

                  3/10

Nowhere near the ruckman he was back in his prime with the Saints as wasn't as good as he was last year. The oldest Swan on the list at 34, age was a big factor on his performance especially hitouts, hitouts to advantage, running, disposals and effectiveness.

Missed the first 6 rounds due to injury, his return to the side wasn't that great and more often that not was beaten in the ruck. His stats were down on last year in disposals (avg 8.6 disposals in 2008 vs. 11.1 in 2007), marks (2.6 vs. 4.0), goals (0.1 vs. 0.6) and hitouts (12.4 vs. 17.6) but did better in tackles (1.2 vs 0.8) and free kicks for (1.4 vs 1.0).

He only had a couple of good games (against Essendon and Brisbane), but there were times where he barely noticed, lost the ruck duels frequently and disposed the ball poorly. A 3 might be generous given his overall performance but he did OK for a ruckman his age and being injury-prone. It would've been better if he joined the Swans in 2006.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

In an odd sort of way, Spider's 2006 season is the one that got away. Bloody Hawthorn and they're refusal to deal.

Retiring was the best thing he did for the club.

Just remember him every time we see Jarryd Morton.

Like I've said a kazillion times, Spida should have come straight to Sydney from the ainters. It was a bad decision that I'm sure he will regret for a long time. He wasted his time at the poos and wees.

He is the best tap ruckman in the business and Jolly is a better ruckman because of him. I don't think anyone has really complained about Jolly's rucking this year. He's done Sydney a great service in teaching the youngins how to do it properly.

Good luck to him on his dairy farm in New Zealand with Cherie and the kids. Spida's a top bloke.
