The creeping absurdity of the name-on-name-on-name sponsorship is one of the greatest advertisements for everyday people to not be an unpaid walking billboard when talking about the footy. Why on earth would you advertise some corporation you have no affinity with, when you can easily express yourself and be understood, without doing so?

            Here we go:
            Docklands
Footy Park (or Football Park) (Adelaide)
            Kardinia Park
            Olympic Stadium (Homebush Bay)
            York Park (Launceston)
            Marrara Stadium (Darwin).

            That wasn't hard, was it?

Point taken but the money paid by companies to have naming rights goes into things like ground maitanence, turf reconstruction and the like. Sure, Gate Takings go to that as well as the clubs and the AFL (or equivalent body) but having another source of income should keep rising ticket prices to a minimum. The fact that Ethihad forked over big money for this deal is only a good thing as far as fans and players are concerned.

The AFL is launching a court battle to avoid the renaming of Telstra Dome on the grounds they weren't consulted. Apparently the AFL doesn't wish to upset QANTAS - a major sponsor - by giving credence to a competitor. Collingwood is also unhappy as they are sponsored by Emirates.
