Premiership credits

I haven't started a new thread for a while and why not on this topic.

I have no idea where I stand on this issue.

Is a player more valuable for being a part of a premiership team?
Football is more a business than it's ever been before, and add to that a salary cap which makes it harder for a team of successful players to all earn their 'worth' by staying in the team, they kinda have to decide to settle for less to stay in the successful team to a degree.

I would suggest, as I have before, that Barry Hall, as a premiership captain, should be regarded as 'untouchable' given lots of different factors such as marketing , tradition etc etc.

Where does a player such as O'Keefe stand?
Does being a part of a premiership team affect his contract negotiations?
Should Davis have been delisted or traded at the end of last season? Or did premiership credits get him another year?

Should premiership credits help a player keep his place in the team if they are not performing?
Roos has talked about these credits before - I wonder what exact amount of weight he gives them?

You can't deny that winning a Premiership is great experience for a player, and may help that player take a greater leadership role in future finals series that feature less experienced players.

A player that has played and won a GF will have footy experience that if put to use correctly can be invaluable. It should count for something. How much is another matter entirely.

Four seasons on its time to move on. People should get over 2005 (especially those who accepted the loss in 2006 just because we won the year before). We may not win another premiership in 20 years. Premiership credits should be as useless as the Zimbabwe currency.

i would think the year after a flag, if a players form is dropping but he was a valuable member of the premiership side it might help him get a few more weeks in the seniors perhaps, i think the premiership has nothing to do with who roos plays favourites with, or whom any coach in the afl favours over other players

I dont hate Roos (hate is such a strong word!) - I'm just not a fan - but he has himself used the term "premiership credits" on a number of occassions - so in his mind they seem to exist for some and not for others.

section 7.2
subsection a) Premiership credits accrued on a sliding scale basis dependent on influence in premiership side are declared null and void at the beginning of the football season immediately following the season in which they were accrued.

I think it's the section just before the no d***heads policy, but I can't be bothered reading that one as there are too many disclaimers.

Its true that premiership credits no longer count in 2009
There is however something that should be said for loyalty we all expect players to be extremely loyal. Just look at angry fans saying they dont want Ryan O anymore just cos he wanted to go home to Victoria there is enormous loyalty expected of players and rightly so.
But the club should show some loyalty towards player, which i believe happens giving some guys getting an extra week to get back into form because of past performances.
Except Luke Ablett he has had his chance there are any number of 1st year players that could have played as well as he did this year. His premiership credits are so far used up that he's in more debt that a US investment bank.

Who @@@@ing cares, they pull on a red and white jumper and we cheer or we go home. Our players are the blokes on the field. How people could possibly bag Roosy is beyond me. No other coach could have done what he has with the list provided. Selfish
