    5.
He didn't have his best season, but he's still our tallest and strongest defender and one of our best marks and tacklers. He's a mobile big man and an important part of the Swans' backline. He'll will be around for awhile.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

I wonder if perceptions of LRT have suffered as a result of his first half of 2005, when his form was the subject of almost weekly threads on RWO. He's quite serviceable now. Not outstanding, but he generally does an OK job.

No slouch, just looks slow because he has an ungainly body. Love him most of the time.
Certainly not his best season thus far, but we have to remember he was coming back from serious injury and was a late starter in AFL footy. I think he will improve as confidence builds, next year should prove it with a solid pre season under the belt. The thing I would like to see improve most is is decision making, which comes with experience

seriously can people be any more sycophantic towards lrt. He is a one dimensional player in that he can neither successfully mark, spoil, tackle or kick. In truth he has been in our side as the tall defender who cannot play on tall forwards. He got beaten by all three collingwood forwards this year (john anthony, medhurst and cloke), dropped an uncontested mark against the bulldogs giving them the game, franklin made him look pathetic, mooney destroyed him.

And the fact that he has successfully beaten a few appears to suggest to people on this page that he tries hard so deserves a spot. He is one of the worst tall defenders in the competition - but beczuse we need one he gets a run every week.

He has always been a liability when we have possession - to the extent that every other club leaves him free and gives him the ball.

i am content that we need a tall defender and until someone else comes along he gets a run - but lets not pretend he is other than what he is - a seriously limited player in a competition which has moved away from that style

He is just a player, who showed the odd glimpse of talent, but his game & decision making has not improved much over the past few years. I still experience that "oh god what's he going to do with it now" feeling of dread every time he gets the ball. - but be must be doing something right in someones eye's to still be getting a game when others who are clearly better get dropped or de-listed.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Agreed when he gets the ball he can be unpredictable, but that is not what he is really in the team for.

Whether anyone likes it or not, he plays a critical role in the structure of the backline. Taking a/the tall mobile forward. He takes the pressure off the rest of the (undersized) defence and allows them to function better.

Perhaps Murphy will support this in the next few years but there are no clear alternatives at 195cm or thereabouts to play the role.... so not sure who the "others who are clearly better are". Or are you comparing midfielders/forwards who "get dropped or de-listed"??

Lurtch has a role to play and was ok this year! 6.5
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

I was saying generally - put simply it seems there are some who get more chances than others and LRT is one of them.

He stepped up a bit this year in the absence of Leo.

And I'm saying that's because of the structural role he plays, as a mobile tall in defence.

Who are the other mobile tall defenders who get de-listed etc while he still gets a run?

Everyone is so critical of LRT and look i know he isnt the best but he is solid and dependable down back and he has one talent that not many players have

The 'BIT OF FUN' talent i love nothing more than watching the big goofy dorfous LRT stumbling out of the backline with thew footy.

He has this amazing talent that makes me smile and laugh, some of us take this footy caper a little to seriously.

He isnt the best but he is solid and still better that grundy or white so while he's in the team try to appreciate the good things he does and have a bit of a laugh.

Thank you Duck. I agree with you 100%. He is also a lovely person, kind to old ladies (me), always ready to be pleasant, and also provides us with a will he or won't he entertainment value. Nothing boring about the lad. And I will tell you something else for nothing. If he ever reads this stuff it would not phase him one iota. He has great belief in himself, knows his place in the order of things, and he is a very intelligent human being.
