    New Rushed Behind Rules ...

... that could be implemented for the 2009 season.

Why don't they just leave our game alone??

AFL keen to boot out rushed behinds

Umpires will apply the benefit of the doubt to defenders under direct pressure or whose aim it is to spoil or touch the ball before it goes through for a goal.
Umpires applying the benefit of the doubt?????
Leave a lot of room for "interpretation".

Why don't they just leave the game alone?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

This is one of the few times I agree with you!

Like most AFL rule changes, this one is a consequence of previous changes - in this case the desperate need to speed up the game after the Swans won the flag.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

        Multiple objections to this.

        Leave our game alone

Too much judgement left to umpires - ie how much pressure does have a defender have to be under to be allowed to rush a behind

Now defenders can't touch arms or the backs of their opponents. If they hold the ball for a milli-second and a pack of players jump on top of them, they will be "HTB". If they tackle an opponent and there is a hint of ITB they will give away a shot at goal. Now they can't even respond to pressure by occasionally walking the ball through for a behind.

Sure, we want goals and we want forwards to get a fair go. But we surely don't want even more gifts. Are there any rules left that help defenders to prevent goals being scored?

Is this really so much of a problem? Are rushed behinds really so much a blight on the game that they need a whole new rule to stop them?

          Emphatically not.
Let the players and coaches evolve the game.
          It aint broke.

Roosey should pull out the soapbox and have a whinge.

On a positive note, I heard on the grapevine that the swannies and roosters have been doing tackling sessions.

Can only be a good thing for us.
