Barry Hall would have been made a saint if he had of hit Hunter instead of Staker - you know it, I know it the whole footy world knows it!! But he got old glass jaw, his own team mates hung him out to dry and Kirk was one of them! Again that is a different topic - different thread.
Hey - I regard stuck in South America on a ship that just failed it's safety inspection as catastrophic . . .

But back on topic - are you saying that Baz was victimised by Kirk and the team? And no doubt again when he nearly did it again? I like Baz but sometimes he makes Brendon Fevola seem like Stephen Hawking (now there's someone who couldn't kick).

Or maybe the team though he was an idiot out of (self) control and told him so . . . Now that'd be an intervention you'd want to watch rather than do.

Maybe a Big Beamish insurance policy for the unlucky bugger who has to play on him in his last game?

Hey you survived and can tell the tale, be thankful - pity the poor bloke who got killed in Mumbai - you try dealing with DFAT & the AFP to try and get his belongings back!!!

Baz has brought many of us great pleasure watching him play - so did Nick - but hey if you are flavour of the month with the LG and the Father of the year - then great - if you aint - look out!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

One of the blokes here did the risk assessment on the QBE sign that he broke with his arm - the sign was stuffed!

Footy is a team game and the coach is the one who is blamed for lack of performance when things are going off the rails.

Therefore if you dont want to be part of the coachs way of doing things , like a workplace, you find another. No matter how good Davis could be he obviously wasnt prepared to toe a certain team line. At the end of the day , I dont think he was asked to do more than was required of any other player at his level.

As for Hall, all I hope is that behind closed doors the team was supportive of him and all the public gesturing was purely politically correct PR spin, because if his public otricism by the swans was based on the punch (and not a greater underlying problem) I cant believe that any hard nosed footy player would really be that incensed with his actions. yes stupid but hell the guy basically played the next week and sufferred no broken bones or other lasting physical harm. Halls a legend in my books and one of the major reasons for our 05 premiership.

Or you could be a player who loves training and team discipline, but have crap skills and you would get a game at Sydney.

Well I have to agree Davo had some huge moments but how sad someone with that level of skill left the game under these circumstances -

My fading memories of Davis will be what a waste of talent and kudos to the club for putting the club before a player whos ego became as large as his luv of KFC.

Not another bloody Davo thread ... for five pages!

                      Enough already.

15 minutes of brilliant footy got us a step closer to a granny win. Who'da thought?

Bye Davo. It's been real. Good luck and all that stuff.

The thing that is missing in the Davo discussion is the inspirational effect on other players of one players brilliance. A cameo performance (Davis, Dew)lifts the whole team to victory and sure everybody still contributes and the guys who always give 100% keep doing that, but the brilliant player wins the game in that context . It's always that context so I agree 100% with those who say we need a variety of players.Who cares about their personalities and habits..its a man's game for grown ups and you can play with people you don't necessarily like. On the field there is a different ethos. While Davis showed a certain immaturity at times,so did the club towards him.The "blood brothers" bull@@@@ if it is a reality at all only exists on the field, the rest is fantasy.
Thanks Nick for getting us to a position to win a flag in 05.! Thanks for the best quarter by an individual in a team that was losing badly,I have ever seen.Your 15 minutes of fame will live on forever long after the hacks have been forgotten.

My lasting memory of Davo will be the time he gave my kids on Driver Ave one Sunday afternoon, the real interest he showed in them, the humility he showed and his genuine despair at being injured at the time. Speaking to him a kids clinic 12 months later he remembered the kids names, was happy to chat again and was contagiously enthusiastic about his footy and about the club's potential for success (it was 2005). The constant talk on here about him being dickhead, a selfish @@@@@, a lost cause, a wasted talent, simply does not ring true with the (limited) interaction I have had with him.

He may not have fitted the mould and never been comfortably within the "brotherhood" but I am sure we are all thankful for that. The great irony of Davo's career is that because he was different the "blood brothers" got a flag. Of course there was a multitude of contributors in 2005 but quite simply there was no other individual performance as important, crucial or as brilliant as his was in that quarter against the Cats. I have said before that it was potentially a disaster for his career but it will live long in football history.

Good by Davo, good luck, thanks for the memories on and off the field.

The article is a piece of self-promotion by a big talking pretender during a very slow day for the media. It has the fingerprints of the greatest manager since Don King all over it. As for state of mind its just more of "Hey everyone look at me, look at me!" By the way why no quotes from OZPunt? Hmmmm

A 19 year old friend of ours has come home for Christmas from the great USofA. He left here having played a bit of soccer and a bit of RahRah Rugby in little old tassie. He would occasionally kick the Aussie Rules footy in the schoolyard. Is now playing College gridiron and earning $500,000 a year as a kicker. They couldn't believe how well he could kick when they saw him playing soccer and he was mucking about at training.

Surely Nick Davis, the greatest forward since Bob Pratt, would be a shoe-in????
