    The odds are up

Sportsbet has posted its seasons odds today.

Swans to miss the 8 - $1.38, which means we are are expected to finish about 4th bottom.

    Top 4 - $8.

    Flag now out to $34.

Goodes shortest for the Brownlow at $26

Talk about sucking in the Richmond and Carlton supporters. They are $17 and $16 for the flag and Freo is $17.

    For the top 4 - Carlton 3.50, Richmond 3.80 and Freo 5.50.

Apart from Cousins who are the secret weapons to take these sides to the top 4?

According to TABozbet, his odds are $81 to win the Coleman Medal. Hall is at $31.

Sounds like pre-season business as usual. Can anyone recall last year's odds?

I used to have the odds...

It would've been less than $15.

I think it was around 20-1 this time last year. In 2005 it was 34-1 pre-season and 17-1 after they smashed the Hawks in round 1.

The odds only reflect where the money is going. When Richmond picked up Cousins there were millions punted on Richmond to take the flag, and so the price drops. It's business, and since when does a bookie want to go broke? If you want the price on the Swans to drop then flood TAB, Betfair, et al with cash, because it doesn't really mean anything in the scheme of things.

Not quite right. We are $34 for the flag but opened in the betting at $31. The bookies had to frame a market as a starting point and had us the equivalent of 4th last. The same goes for all the other odds that went up after Cousins was drafted. They posted these odds on the expectation of the Tigers supporters jumping on, and the bookies as usual gave skinny odds as openers. Nothing different from the opening market at the races. They posted the Tigers much shorter than us for all other bet types. We drifted to $34 due to the weight of money for the Tigers and Carlton for the flag.

The reality is the bookies rate us about the same as other pundits and the straw poll on Big Footy backs that up. As the season draws closer and starts and if Cousins gets injured or proves fragile and with no form, the Tigers will blow like a gale in the markets.

Clutching the Cuz straw will end in tears for the spliffers (and the Wallet). And expect that imposter to be back on tele in 010 boring on. The bookies and (Cuz's) mates will be laughing all the way the nationalized bank.

I heard that Terry had a hair transplant?

                            is that true?

millions punted on richmond to win the flag??? I want what they must be smoking.

I've never understood why someone would bet a lot of money on the flag or brownlow at or before the start of the season, when you have to wait 9 months + for a payout. Seems a bit uneconomic, all those months of forgone opportunity.
