We have good replacements on every line to cover injuries but what if Jolly seriously injures himself in the first match of the season.Who would carry the Ruck? The thinking behind recruiting Spida was good but the timing was bad . Who have we recruited? Is the team serious about 24 year old Mike Pyke? Can Currie play all Year? Can LRT or Goodes play a support role? What is the thinking about this and what other options do we have? I am hoping for the miraculous development of Pyke coz apart from having no skills ,he looks perfect! Comments?

LRT has proven to be a very handy emergency ruckman at times. Obviously not a first choice, but if you had Currie and Orreal as the two main ruckmen, it would be unfair to expect them to be able to share the ruck duties all day at such a young age. Enter LRT for a few 5 minute stints. If White is in the side, he'd be in front of LRT, but LRT would be my second choice pinch-hitting ruckman.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

I think we're less vulnerable this year. If Jolly had been injured last year there's no way Everitt could have rucked out games on his own. Not to diss him - he filled the gap after Ball left pretty well. This year it will be Currie's chance. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

You may use him as a "roving" ruck if he's in the vicinity or at a pinch or a set play to free up Jolly, but he's never going to make 2nd ruck status.....Comment

Look, it wont be as big as deal as some think.
If people are fair dinkum, Spida gave us very little game day and was a laughing stock with most football people last year.
Sure he would of been benefit around the club during the week with the young kids though he had mininmal impact last year on the ground.
Watching Currie,Orreal & LRT and even Goodsey is what we want rather than a old Spida.
Im sure that they will be up to the task once they get a chance, and we must remember we have a bloody good No 1 Ruckman who so far ( touchwood) has remained injury free in the whole.Est 1874

I liked it a few years ago when Bazza did a fair bit of the forward 50 ruck work, it seemed to keep him involved in the game.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

A lot has been said before about the big gap in standard between the Canberra comp and the AFL. Unfortunately the position where the difference is most pronounced is in the ruck. Crusher showed so much promise last year, but his success this year will depend very much on how much he builds up this off season and how he copes with the big transition. The reserves mail last year was that Crusher is pencilled in for an early debut, reinforced by his number upgrade. One thing in his favour is that he is not the prototype big dumb ruckman - we found out at last years trivia that young Dan is VERY intelligent. He is also just about the nicest young man one could ever have the pleasure to meet.
Jayco is still a rookie, so I would reckon on another year in the ressies. But such was his meteoric improvement over the last half of the season that nothing will surprise. The only good thing about the Fosdike dilemma is that if any of the rookies hit their straps there is an immediate promotion available. If Jake can continue his rapid progress he could be the one, but the same applies equally to "Skull" Murphy.Pay peanuts get monkeysComment
