I take your point! Kicking and marking are the easy skills, bread and butter stuff. Maybe he could be useful in the last couple of minutes of a game when we want someone to run forward then pass backwards. The backwards play should be second nature to him! Seriously though, I am assuming he is a serious option because to assume otherwise is to admit the Swans is giving someone a free holiday in Sydney. I doubt that is the case!He would have to play and play in ruck soon to be of any value or else our young blokes like Currie will be there and he won't be needed

Let's face it, the guy's a punt. Roos et al know that the Gold Coast and WS will get the best of the young talent for the next 3 - 5 years and need to find another path. I trust Roos in this whole affair, because he gave us Tadgh, and that seems to have worked out pretty well.

Put him in the ruck. Even if he can't do much he'll sure hurt some bodies out there.

Let's face it, they have persevered with LRT at CHB because we are so goddam light on for tall timber down back. In Season 2005 where games were flood-fests we could get away with it. In Season 2009 where the emphasis is on quick movement out of defence to beat the defensive net, we can't any more.

I seriously think LRT should be persevered with as second ruckman. I still steadfastly recall a match against the Crows at Footy Park in 2004 or 2005 where he dominated the ruck.

He just needs guidance training and a bit of patience. We just cannot afford to have him standing there wondering what to do with it at CHB any more.

That's a surprise, maybe he's adapted to the game quicker than I thought.

Maybe a good thing with few options for 2nd ruck, for who ever they chose for the main season will have pressure on them to keep there place in the side.
It will between LRT, White and Currie for the season proper because Pyke and Orreal are rookies. As I understand it, they cannot play in the seniors unless they are elavated due to a long term injury.
At the end of the year expect to see Orreal, Murphy and Thorton promoted off the rookies list and Pyke a second year as a rookie unless he does really well this year.

I met Pyke up at Club Swans on Friday night and had a chat with him. He said he thinks he is picking up the skills really well and he even mentioned that his kicking is getting better every day. He said the hardest thing for him is the left hand handball (i said not to worry, thats the hardest for everyone!).

And tell you what he is a big unit! His biceps are massive. Brett Alison made some jokes about how you know you have been tackled when you are tackled by Mike!

Oh and dont worry about homesickness. He has his girlfriend out here with him and she apparently loves the place (and he said that Sydney reminds him of Vancouver anyway).

I think he is an exiting prospect.

Exciting to think of another exit by a Swan.

Surely they have to give currie and/or white the chance. Forget the others they are a year or so from making the grade.

I think the rumour is White is being groomed as a Leo-replacement Full back.
