    Rookie Opportunity

Does Tadhg's departure mean the Swans have the ability to elevate a player from the Rookie list to the Senior list?

If so, who do people think should be given this great opportunity at the start of the season?

Not so clear cut, can only elevate a rookie if it is for medical reasons that Kennelly is retiring.

For Fosdike it will be the case, but for Kennelly it will not.

While his body is struggling he is leaving to play back on Ireland so it ain't for medical reasons.

      Thanks Tadgh,
Could of at least popped the shoulder one last time for us, and left the club in a sling, thus allowing us to elevate a rookie. Maybe the club could call on the services of Tonya Harding...

I was under the impression (though I could very easily be wrong) that we can only elevate a rookie if Kennelly stays on our list, and is put on the LTI list, and as such paid for the year. I'm fairly sure Kennelly could be put on the LTI list if that was what he and the Swans wanted. So basically, it's pay Kennelly and elevate a rookie, or don't pay Kennelly, terminate his contract, and don't elevate a rookie. Strange, when put that way, it seems quite counter-intuitive.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I'll get my psychic to look into it...........she says that a whack with a shamrock can bring tears to a leprechaun's eyes and a rookie can be elevated as the player he is replacing has breached his.........sorry, couldn't help myself.

Anyway, what sort of masculine dance is a jig anyway! It's nearly as bad as the Greeks dancing in dresses.

Neither Kennelly's nor Fosdike's departure allows us to elevate a rookie.

                Maybe in Rd 11.

Isn't it a new rule that a club can elevate a rookie for any reason after round 11, regardless if you have already elevated a rookie.

At the end of 2009 we will have bucket loads of money in the salary cap with these 2 gone and the likes of Hall, MOL, Barry and Crouch likely departures.

What is the point of bucket loads of money if no one wants to come here???

Does anyone have the definitive answer? The press seem to have said variously we cannot elevate a rookie and that we can elevate a rookie.

Whatever way that goes I regard losing two players at a late stage is totally unacceptable. As in other posts I think we are generally well organised in our approach, think outside the square and are indeed certainly highly regarded as such.

However this is a debacle, our injury rate last year was not flash and we then suffered from not elevating the players we needed to blood and of course thus playing just too many players carrying injuries in key games.

It is good that we stuck firm on Fossie and Tadgh and did not go down the press bitching path, but in light of the current tight rookie/drafting regime this is a bloody disaster.

There's about 7 youngsters on the senior list that I'd like to see a bit more of before any of the guys on the rookie list.

Agreed, all the more reason we have to get our act together on and off the field.

Money lures the egos which usually goes hand in hand with top players.

The Swans called today to see if I could run out for a few games.

I told them I'd consider it later in the year, just before the finals.
