TBC - Davis had flair and he was a flawed talent, but Davis wouldnt fit into the clone mould that the mullet haired coach wants. Dont forget (and there are those who still live in denial) the flag in 05 would not have happened had it not been for Davis in the Semi final. (I'm ready for the carry on about that to come my way) Vespa has similar qualities to Davis and I'm not the only one who thinks that way either.

I'm not sure what the man was like in person, but yes he was worth more to us in 2005 than Leo's mark... And for that i thank him, he was mostly a pleasure to watch, and one of only a few we had that could kick over 50m from a set shot.

No it hasnt - but I would suggest you watch Vespa play - he has similar a style of play to the former player who had "2" on his back. That is all I'm suggesting. I fear he will end up as dull as dishwater like the rest of the team if he's not permitted to play his natural game.

People ALSO seem to forget that in that final against Geelong Davis half-heartedly jogged after his opponent early in the fourth quarter, who broke from the defensive 50 to goal for the cats. Kirk then riled up Davis telling him "he owed the team" after his dismal chase.

Yes, Davis won the game for us. But I can't see Vez ever not chasing an opponent without full gusto and an full-blooded intention to drag his man down or out of the play. Flair is one thing, attitude to the team is another, and Davis consistently showed his attitude to the team was flimsy at best.

If you watch the game, Davis was actually manning up LRT's man, that is why his man was loose. He was trying to cover two men whilkst LRT ran around looking like a kangaroo in the head lights. Don't let the facts get in the way.

Indeed that is correct GS14 - Prince Planet didnt have a clue as to where he was to be - but Kirk blasted Davis instead - an indication of things to come perhaps a year or so down the track - Kirk aint that perfect either.

anyway - back on topic - I hope that Vespa can play his natural game - and enjoy it - the boy has talent, here's to Vespa being allowed to be Vespa.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Davo's attitude over his whole career BUT he did not owe the team on that night. He was one of the few to 3 qtr time who actually kept us in the game. He was our best player for the first 3 qtrs in my opinion, prior to producing the best (and most important) individual finals quarter of all time.

Davis is traveling fairly well with his man up until he stops to man the mark. He pretty clearly (in my opinion at least) indicates to Lewis to follow his man.

Forgive the quality, I'll make sure to use a better format when uploading the Bevo highlights from that game.

There is no doubt that Davis won us that game and by definition allowed us to continue to the flag. I am eternally grateful and like most turned a blind eye to his slackness because I knew we owed him. The argument here is not whether Davis had flair, which he undoubtedly did, but that he believed this would take the place of doing the hard yards like chasing, gut busting training and following a set of guidelines developed by his team-mates. He admits himself that he was slack and that if it hadn't been for the good will of the club he would have been given his marching orders years before.

And don't forget, every other club had the chance to grab this flair when he went into the PSD but none were willing to take the baggage that came with it.
Vespa has a history of flair plus an attitude of striving for success and doing the hard yards. Comparing the two players is like comparing apples and oranges (or more correctly lemons!)

PS. In the semi final he picked up LRT's man because it saved him the effort of chasing his own bloke down into the forward line. He must have known a bloke free at CHF was much more dangerous than a bloke who had marked in the centre.
