    Scott Direen

Over the last season or two, our kicking in from fullback has been average (at best). We seem to take the very short option to the pocket all too often and it gives the opposition so much more time to set up their zone defence.

We then piss fart around with the ball, until we turn it over or get it up to a crowded forward line.

I remember Scott Direen had a great season one year when he was a designated kicker from full back. He was a very accurate kick, with alot of penetration. Was able to hit blokes on the chest 50 metres away. I recall that it helped set-up some very quick passages of play to our forward line.

    Whatever happened to him?

Wouldn't mind if Nick Malceski was used more often than not to kick out.

I don't think Scott Direen went on to become head of mensa.

Scott moved to South Australia and played great footy in the SANFL with Norwood. He's now retired and working with the juniors (with one of the SANFL clubs I think)

Should've played in our '96 GF side ahead of McPherson or Garlick. Memory is hazy but I think he was available.

As for Malceski, I reckon his kicking is very much off the boil at the moment. How bad was his kick when he took the easy handball off Grundy? Grundy should've been having a shot, as he's one of the longest and best kicks in the side IMO.
Malceski just chasing an easy kick - he wouldn't have run past Hall for the handball.

The way we're playing, Andrew Dunkley might come out of retirement and get the job as our designated kicker!!!

Frosty definitely needed to play so Garlick was the man that could have made way for Scotty.

Agree his kicking is off the boil but is way better than last year.

Maybe it will take a little time to get his confidence back.

Was that in 1995? We had Daniels, Dunkley, Grey and Heuskes in defence, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had to do a lot of kicking.

He had bad timing - got straight duck eggs for his stats in round 22 and was dropped.

And if that happened then Rodney (who IMO had no imagination) would have dropped him flat.
