    Swans match scores low ratings

I just checked out the Sydney ratings for last night's Swans v Hawthorn game. In Sydney only 97,000 people bothered to tune in. Even Iron Chef pulled in a bigger audience of 125,000. The game came last in the ratings for its timeslot in Sydney.

I'm not surprised, it's pretty much like that every week.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

And the AFL thinks a second team in Sydney will mean a higher price for TV rights. Pretty difficult when next to nobody is tuning in to watch the first Sydney team...

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

We normally get between 120-180K in Sydney, so that drop should ring massive alarm bells for the AFL, it wont, but should.

Will be ineresting to see if it increases next week though. Coverage in Sydney media today was very positive, back page Sun-Herald and Front Page of Sport in the Sunday Telegraph.

Questionably low, although given the bagging the SWans copped after the Saints game and the fact that almost no one expexted them to win (rather, it was more a question of how much they would lose by), it's not too surprising.

Another clear reason why we need to lift interest and knowledge of the game in Western Sydney via a franchise that is relevant to the West, so the AFL is not just reliant on the Swans to promote the game, or just relying on a Swans audience to watch our games.

Don't forget that there were 33,000 at the ground, so they won't contribute to the TV audience. Also, there were 22,000 at the SFS watching the Waratahs (and was that game also on Fox?). So there's a fair bit of competition for the FTA sports audience.
I was at the ground and will watch a replay on ONE this week.
