    Match Review Panel

Goodes, Kirk and now McVeigh! Who will be the lucky Swan next week?! By the looks of it, the Skilton medallists are in the thick of the action, so my money is on Barry Hall.

AFL Match Review Panel: Round 3

Jarrad McVeigh, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a Second Offence for making negligent contact with an umpire (Stephen McBurney) during the first quarter of the Round Three match between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions, played at the Gabba on Saturday April 11, 2009. As an advisory note to media, McVeigh?s contact was not considered reckless as he did not set up directly behind the umpire.

In summary, he can accept a $2850 sanction with an early plea.

A second offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $3800 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $2850 sanction.

What do these ridiculous charges mean for Brownlow eligibility?

IIRC, you need to be actually suspended for at least a match (100 points) to be deemed ineligible. So you could plead early to a charge to earn a discount and still win the Brownlow.

Lol this is a huge joke, easy money for the AFL when a player brushes an umpire now. They're robbing the players blind and nothing will be done about it, @@@@ing disgrace.

Don't thiink you have to be suspended, and indeed, you can be suspended and still be eligible. I believe it is based on the base points awarded for an offence before any discounts and before adding any loadings for being a repeat offender or any carry over points from previous indiscretions.

Not so silly Deadly. If you add up all the trivial fines at the end of the season it probably pays the fat controllers bonus.

I reckon Koschitzke was very lucky to get off. Just looked a plain and simple punch to the head whilst the Eagles player was on the ground. Barry Hall would be nailed to the cross if he did it, given it was Easter weekend and all.

Because the Eagles player wasn't Hunter, I see no reason why he should not have had a case to answer.

It's about time Nick Maxwell got suspended, the amount of times he takes players out, away from play (usually), when they are watching the ball and not expecting it is just ridiculous. Yes it is a contact sport, but only when the ball is nearby.

As much as I'd hate to lose McHack ( can you believe I just said that??), I think the QC's should be called in on this one. Take it to Court and see how the rule holds up. Argue that the person who shoves the other into a maggot (maybe we should wrap them in bubblewrap) is the one who gets fined. I don't know if it happened like this on Saturday, or if McHack just couldn't see where he was going in the rain, but it could be worth the hassle just to question the validity of the rule.

As it stands, we're going to have at least four of our best players dangling by the hairs of their chinney chin chins at tribunal. One more "incident" for any of them and their out.

Kinda sucks when you think about it.

Yes, it's becoming pretty obvious that given the Swans style someone from the team will be getting hauled to the tribunal and then fined every week for this. Further, there's now a market with established prices being set for various levels of umpire contact.

So here's a thought ... instead of complaining about it, let's embrace it proactively. We establish an umpire bashing slush fund to cover the fines. Each week the team draw straws with the winner getting to land one on the most annoying umpire/stupid decision. We'll need to budget modest amounts for the more relaxed players (e.g. Kirky) at around $4-5K, mid level for the "ocassional mad-moment" guys (e.g. Goodesy, Shaw) around $10-15K. For the time being we may need to exclude Baz or we may be looking at another global financial crisis.

I'll start the fund with a $50 donation. Who's in??
CIA Agent to Policeman: "Have you ever had anti-terrorist training?"
Policeman: "Yes, I was married once."

This probably belongs in general footy chat, but I have to agree with you. I was stunned to see Koschitzke got off.

I know we say this all the time, but imagine it was Goodes who did was Koschitzke did? He'd be called all the unpleasant names under the sun by the goons at BF and it'd be blown out of proportion by the media.
