Not sure what game you were watching, but I think we were very direct in attack. Couple that with the lockdown defense and I love our style of play from the weekend

I'm sure watching a win helped the enjoyment thoroughly - I was happy with Carlton's kicking too - at one point what, 1 goal and 12 behinds. Well, until we caught up with them on the 12 behinds bit. Then I fretted when it looked like Carlton might come back in the last quarter, but it was a false alarm.

OK, not the most insightful comments, but I'm still learning my way around. And I can finally learn from watching the games live ... then once I think I know what I'm talking about, I can become truly annoying ...
I don't think this has held anyone in this forum back before!

I've mentioned twice in this thread that I didn't see the game on the weekend.
My comments are based on the last few years.
If our style of play changes, good.

Nice game. I wasn't sure we'd win ... it was very sloppy at times.

We were very, very, very, VERY lucky that their kicking at goal was off.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Sorry, there are a lot of posts in this thread. Rhys Shaw's propensity to tuck the back and back himself seems to be rubbing off on the rest of the guys. If we can continue this type of effort throughout the season, I'll be a very happy Swans supporter.

Carlton could say the same. If our kicking had been on target, they would've copped a real thrashing.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

If I am not wrong, a great setup play, not mentioned here, could have been performed intentionally by Judd. When he was caught with the ball at least another two swans surfounding him, about 1 -2 metre I think, he simply hand-balled lop it high above the surrounding red players 2-3 metres to about 4 o'oclock direction without knowing if there are blue players there. Sure enough, the blues were waiting there and ran away with it. Our players were left standing. Now, it is a setup hand-ball over opponents players, it is very smart indeed if it was pre-planned hand-ball to 4 oclock. We need to start this kind of performing blind setup, similar to soccer player kicking blind backwards with their heels to set up positions.
Exactly - Geelong seem to do it heaps.

Gives his man far too much room in crumming contests and is weak in the 1-1 marking contests. Spevo is THE clear wink link in our backline targetted by opposition coaches and players.
O dear. Maybe a wink is as good as a nudge but the kid has been in outstanding form. He gets the most dangerous opposition small forward every week because he is our best "small" defender (although the kid is so versitile he plays tall and small eg his carving up of Brennan and Grant). It may have escaped your attention but Milne, Murphy and Betts are the best small forwards of their respective clubs and the game plan is to play to your most dangerous forwards. Are you suggesting that when Betts isnt being monstered by the Bevanator that the Crims largely ignore him and play through Houlihan? The kid comprehensively pantsed Betts in the first half and being a very good footballer Betts came back in the second half. In the sport of boxing astute judges (the ones who can count) would award that two rounds each. A draw. If Crouch hadn't been injured he probably would have got Betts which would have given the kids multitude of fans the mouth watering prospect of the tyro being let off the chain and the full range of outside skills (hand and foot, including 60 metre killer goals, marks flying into and on top of packs etc, etc) placed out on display on the sideboard.

                    I don't think we had a passenger.

Thornton did a couple of OK things.
Anyone agree with me that Grundy really stepped up and may have even arrived as a footballer.
Although not a lot of stats Meredith continues to show his poise and skill.
Bird has all the time in the world when he has the footy, sometimes too much time eg. caught from behind. If he had another yard in pace he would be something else. Maybe set him for the 2010 Stawell Gift to help his pace.
The backline continues to do the job. Even though Betts got away from Bevo a couple of times, Bevo did the shutdown when it counted (where is Connolly)
O'Keefe - looks to be back. Stood up after Q time when needed. Still reckon he should play on the ball.
Shaw is an inspired draft selection. His ability to find the ball off half back and run down field with the transfer of play is exceptional. He is giving us better value than that other bloke did last year. He must have racked up some Brownlow votes by now as he is in the play all the time.
I must say even accounting for Jude's dubious disposal, he is in the best form of his career.
McVeigh was very good, as was Kirk, Jack was good, Moore did his bit in a very even performance.
Good summary Nico. In the words of the great Leadbelly no one knows the trouble I've seen

Me too. At a certain age you tend to just wander off. No one notices and everything just seems like yesterday when you get back
