    Postcard from Perth

Well, Freo more accurately. Deep in the heart of enemy territory, with the staff in the cafe where I currently sit all dolled up this morning in their Dockers shirts. I think the handful of young men who've just walked in all sporting their Dockers shirts might actually be Dockers.

So, what news of the game, from the land where the vibe is good, the vino most excellent, the road signposting shocking and the coffee even worse...

Anyone foolish enough to tip us for this week might be advised to change their tips now. We stand no chance. So says Dean Wallis, interviewed on the radio yesterday, who wasn't content with guaranteeing a better Dockers performance this week, but insisted on absolutely guaranteeing a victory, egged on by a host who kept going on about what a great record the Dockers have over the Swans

Abhor the coffee, stick to the vino. I recommend the red and the white.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Poor Liz, what a disappointing game to attend, but one positive, at least u were spared the shocking TV commentary. If I hadn't seen the Swans playing appallingly with my own eyes (when I could bear to look), it sounded as if only one team played.

Would love to see your match comments when you've got time.

Jude Bolton finished up with the most possessions for the game, but all they talked about was how many Pav got.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

VERY disappointing game to attend (sigh), sadly in the end I didn't get to meet any of the RWO'ers prior to the game due to family committments...will post more detailed comments later. Liz I'm glad someone else is having a good time in Perth! Probably not the time or the place but highly recommend a trip to the Freo markets. Otherwise the Freo supporters handled the win pretty graciously.

There was only one thing worse than tipping the Swans this week and that was forking out good money to watch them play live.

                  More money than sense.

The TV commentary was terrible. I made the game horrid to watch. What is the matter with them! Can't channel 10 get their act together?

It wasn't a channel 10 game it was a Foxtel game.

                        Just back from Sunny WA.

Had a lovely Italian meal on Northbridge...wandered around Curtin Uni and On Campus accommodation so I can now visualise where my daughter is whilst doing her course. It was lovely to see her....

The Game...didn't get to meet any RWOers but did see JF with his flag down with the cheersquad.I felt like embarrasing my daughter by yelling out"Where are you Liz and Xie Shan?" but I didn't. The man next to me used to be married to a Tasmanian so that was a bit wierd. The cheering was great around us..very vocal. The team looked really professional in the warm-up whilst Freo looked like country bumpkins taking potshots..and that was the only time we were in front.

We kept trying and didn't give up..so I sort of enjoyed the game and there were somecameos..such as Jude and Bevan's tackling that were great.

Some great laughs provided by LRT.

                        Lots of hairpulling out.

Tiger airlines weren't too bad..not as bad as I thought..$214 return.

Sorry about that Satch! There were a lot of Swannies around us behind the goals and I must admit I wondered if you were around...I think we would have enjoyed taking out our post-match frustrations on each other Didn't really have time to meet up before the game as it's not often all our family is together and I kind of had to rush off after the game as had a wedding to go to the next day...

As for the game, the red and white contingent was very vocal early but I think most of us were stunned (and not in the good way) by the second quarter... some of our attempted kick-ins in particular were embarrassing. The team lifted their work rate visibly in the second half but it seemed whenever we got a goal they would get it back straight away. Have never seen so many grown men wearing purple though Otherwise I have to say I kind of enjoyed seeing a game outside the confines of the SCG/ANZ.

But as I said earlier most of the Freo supporters were pretty gracious (they don't win as often as their Weagle cousins ) and I remarked to a couple of them on the way home that living in Sydney, this is probably the only time I'll get to hear the Freo song after the game. Heh.

No hiding from the fact that the performance from us was nothing other than disgraceful though, especially given what they had to play for. I mean, if you can't lift for a bloke who's given his all for the club, then why bother?

Glad you enjoyed the rest of your trip to Perth!

                            Out of the Woodwork

Could not find a Freo supporter in the office in Cannington on Friday. I proudly wore a Swans jumper to work. Today what a difference. They all appear, like slaters from under rotting wood. Water cooler quarterbacks. Who needs them!

Just got back home after a week in Perth. It was good to be around so many Swannies supporters. None of whom left at 3/4 time mind you. We stuck around until the bitter end. My 4 year old came home from Kindy a few weeks ago and informed me that he wanted a Dockers hat. even though he's been a Swans junior member since he was born. So I promised him that I would buy him a cap and t-shirt. So imagine me...in my red and white glory, buying stuff at the Dockers team store!! He proudly wore his new gear the next day, much to the disgust of hubby who is die-hard Eagles man. (LOL)

For those who have never been to Freo...it's a very different place down there. I think those who live north of the river actually need a passport to get into Freo. Not that you would want to go there regularly.

Some drunk Knobhead wearing a West Coast jumper and scarf sitting two rows behind me was loudly bagging every Swans player and supporter and then bagging every Dockers player, whilst cheering for Wet Toast.
I don't know if he was aware that they lost to Hawthorn earlier that day? Anyway, he annoyed the hell out of a lot of people with his boorish antics and swearing and even got personal with a couple of Swans supporters, which, unfortunately, made them leave during the second quarter. Took until the final 5 minutes of the last quarter when security finally removed him and everybody (all Dockers and Swans supporters) stood up and clapped!! Having been around Eagles and Dockers supporters all the time, there is nothing better than a Weazles supporter getting kicked out of a Dockers game.

Hope that everyone enjoyed their trip over here and that we will see you all again next year.
I might have a slight drinking problem. My husband asked me to toast some bread for him...so I raised my wine glass and said "Here's to bread!"
