Just occurred to me after reading something Liz wrote. Could I have been misreading Cheese's style as being lazy as had been laid on Lewis in days of old? The use of the word "loping" triggered my memory of Dale Lewis's style so wondering if I had been overly hard on the lad. Thoughts?

Lewis was the most frustrating player of all time.
My girls were quite young when I was watching the Swans with him in the team (both disinterested in football) but you only have to mention the words football and swans and their initial cry is..."LEEWWIS"
I must have yelled it out lots as I was throwing things atthe screen."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the Machine -

When I watch Barlow I think "one day the flick will switch" and he will be superb. He'll be nailing 4 goals a game from everywhere.
Glass is half full - I think he could be a Steve Johnson
Glass is half empty - I think Dale Lewis
Very similar style on and off the field - laid back, laconic, lopingComment

OK! He hasn't got plastered and belted someone and been banned from the club..., however, his Carlton game is a good example of what I meant by the making that comparison. He covered alot of ground, found the ball and backed himself. If he nailed the goals and worked harder defensively and in the contest I think he could develop into a player of the style of Steven Johnson.Comment

In fairness to Barlow, I thought his last two games were quite good. He showed far more intent and intensity. I thought he was unlucky to be dropped, actually. If he'd been dropped earlier, fine, but I thought he was showing a fair bit of improvement by the time he was dropped.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

The siren call is for MtS & BBB, let the beatings begin. And Matthew Nicks? You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

Lewis >>>>>>>>>>>> Barlow.
Laconic absolutely, frustrating yes, but throughout his career I don't recall Lewie being referred to as soft, something Ed has in bucket loads.Comment
