Swans finals appearance record post 1996

I was watching On The Couch the other night listening to Mike Sheehan and he was gushing on about Geelong how successful they have been with their current win ration, quoting statistics, which he always refers to to justify his viewpoints, and it got me thinking about about the lack of recognition and acknowledgement of achievements that the Swans don't receive from the media and experts south of the Murray.

The media and experts always make reference to teams making the finals (which leads to the ultimate goal viz; 2005) and base their assessment on their achievements in reaching the finals. I did a quick search (can't rely totally on my memory) and calculated that the Swans have been in the finals, since 1996, every year except 2000 & 2002. That makes a total of 11 finals appearances out of 13 years. Where is the recognition of achievement from the so called expert commentators? If a Victorian team achieved this the point would be rammed down our throats ad nauseam.

Thinking further, credit for this success, with relation to player lists & football, recruiting & medical departments should be given to Ron Barrassi, Rodney Eade & Paul Roos and their respective support staff. So despite some ordinary (dud) recruits, the club has done extremely well and will continue to do so. Paul Roos & co are still defying the experts and I have faith that they will continue to do so.
