The AFL is experimenting with timetables, like the Sunday Twilight timeslot. The idea is that with two extra teams in the competition and an extra game per week it is better to have at a time that doesn't clash with the current 'conventional' timeslots. This basically means an extra game can be broadcast each week, which equals a higher price on the Broadcasting Rights.
TL;DR
Expect more monday night football, especially after 2012.10100111001 ;-)Comment

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

At least you'll get tomorrow night's game at a decent timeslot. Sydney non-foxtel viewers can wait unil 11:30pm, as per usual.
I'd imagine if Monday night/Sunday Twilight became a permanent fixture the next contract would require 5 games FTA and four exclusive to Pay-TV, remembering it will be a 9-game round.10100111001 ;-)Comment

From all reports, it is a weigh up between Thursday and Monday night football for after 2012. Mind you, they aren't taking too many risks, they have put some pretty popular teams in the test slots.
Another option is to have a Super Saturday, with an early game, 4pm game and 7 pm game in addition to the FTA 2pm and 7pm games. However, that would mean 5 Saturday games, so I'm not sure that would work too well.Comment

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Monday night games becoming part of AFL culture. Technically it is just as easy to go to a Monday night game after work as a Friday night one. But backing up at work the next day is a horror at times.
The thing is, I'm scared the AFL are hell bent on making this Monday fixture a success. They are playing a club with 40000+ members in a 52000 stadium. So it is guaranteed to get 45000+. Then you'll see Dimwit boast the next day in the paper "The people have spoken! Monday night football is here to stay!""
Personally I'd prefer Thursday night matches. And only between two Melbourne club, so that travelling interstate fans don't have to take 2 days off work to go to the game.
I can say I would HATE Sydney to play home games on a Monday night. Or away games for that matter.

I'd much rather see the saturday fixture include a match at 4 or 5pm AEST. That way the telecast could have the match at 2pm, followed by another at 5-5:30pm (delayed, news at half-time maybe) and a delayed telecast of the night game at 8:30, which already happens if the game is in Melbourne.
Only problem, who would watch 9.5 hours of non-stop football?10100111001 ;-)Comment

Look at all the empty seats now with 12 minutes still left to play. Dont EVER let anyone in Melb criticise Swans supporters for leaving a game early.
I hate St Kilda far more than I dislike Collingwood so am getting minimal pleasure out of this massacre. I'm going to enjoy seeing St Kilda supporters suffering another failed finals campaign this year.Occupational hazards:
