Man. I was watching the Hawks-Blues game a couple of weeks ago and actually turned down the volume on the TV to listen to ABC commentary, even with the lag, just to avoid listening to Walls and Lane call a Carlton game *shudder*

Otherwise Lane isn't a bad caller, just boring to listen to on TV. Is better on radio when he just calls the action.

Yep it was him...how odd that he would try to use the basketball terms! And completely inappropriate.

OK, now here's a thought. Which of us would make a great AFL caller? Or at least a barely adequate one. If they are so lost for afl callers they had to go to an NBL caller, there must be space on the caller bench. Any takers?

My commentary is fantastic (just ask GS14) ... although it probably would break every broadcasting rule out there!!

Me too. I develop Footy Tourets Syndrome once a week during the Season. At least can name the Swans players, the others don't count, and all the umps have the same name "effing cheating no brained twerps".

But when umpires get it right, which does happen on occasion, they are called "oh wise and noble maggot" by Bay 27.

                          voice of reason

A Maggot is the common name of the larval phase of development in insects of the order Diptera. Possessing a single pair of wings on the mesothorax and a pair of halteres, derived from the hind wings, on the metathorax Maggots are not capable of being either wise or noble.... But they do occassionaly blow one out the mesothorax?

Terrible timeslot Bee, same time as Before the Bounce.

I'd be happy to watch it otherwise, but the 1hr leadin to Friday nights live game in Sydney with Dunstall and Frawley is one of the better shows and sets up friday nights very nicely.

Can't help thinking the Ch 10 team has been read the riot act by senior management. Lots of people (me included) have noted that constantly having the 10 team bagging the Swans as being boring, ugly, only ever mentioning flooding when the ball is in our defensive area, etc wasn't going to encourage the locals into watching the coverage and with Foxtel often providing a simulcast there has been a drop in ratings for 10. Methinks they've been told to be a bit less critical this year and that's what we've seen recently.
