    ...am surprised no one noticed!!!

correct me if I'm wrong here people, but i do believe we won the free kick count(for once!!) on the weekend. All be it by 1 (17for-16against). There is a God.

May well be right. We're much less likely to concede frees when we go fast and direct; it's stoppages that umps (and rulemakers) dislike.

At least the crap was spread evenly and not piled up on one side, when it really stinks.

I liked the way the weekends games were umpired. There may have been some funny decisions but at least it wasnt the tiggy touchwood crap served up early in the season.

Umpires were much more liberal on hands in the contest decisions etc which makes for a much better game as your not constantly sitting wondering what the decision was for.

I believe the Swans did really well in the first quarter with the grey area frees going our way . As the game went on things returned to normal .

Not that they were too bad this weekend .... BUT ...

The NRL referees are getting sacked/suspended for bad decisions which impact on the outcome of the game (there have been at least two in the last couple of weeks).

Maybe the AFL should take note.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Technically the AFL umpires are open to the sack , but they are judged by the same people giving them directions and this direction seems to fluctuate quite wildly at times .
Take the "hands in the back " fiasco .There was always a "hands in the back" penalty . It was covered by both interference in marking and ball not within 5m laws , yet they cranked up a new law , went overboard and now dialled it back to the the same common sense point it was way back .
Dennis Commeti did an article saying it was all getting too hard in the modern game - crap . Quite simple really . If you haven't got the ball you should be free to go for the ball .If you have possesion of the ball you must dispose(legally) of the ball. If you have possesion of the ball you are liable to be tackled . The tackler cannot be expected to withdraw have way through because the tackle dislodged the ball .

Anyway the umps dislike Port more than Sydney . Probably line ball with the Dockers .

                .

                  It's one of those things.....

If there is a person you know who can't get along with anyone, you ask them "is it everyone else, or is it you with the attitude problem?"
                  The answer is pretty obvious.

So the question here is "is it the umpired who ALL have it in for the Swans and purposefully award free kicks against them? Or it is the Swans whose style of play and lack of ability not to infringe which dictates the high free kick count?"

                  Me thinks it's the latter....
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

I believe that's 2 weeks in a row, correct? If so, that really would be special - and long may it continue! I love the idea of being umpires' pets! I wonder if Humphrey had a word to them before the game - he can be very intimidating.

I always think the umpiring seems fairer when it's two non-Melbourne teams

Agree, sharp observation. possibly reason less tagging and body to body contact, the game kept moving too fast for easier penalty detection or umpires love moving game.

agree. if mistakes are even, we already win from the past more frees against-us. When the game is to be won, we have the umpires blowing at both sides. That we can take and that's the minimum standard we ask.

Blowing more against us in crucial early moments of the game is simply not on. It is a disgrace, more so with an established AFL institution supposedly having the financial resources to get nothing but the best and have high aim on winning the hearts in Sydney.

I'm always surprised how often the commentators who also have spotters (those having a breather) watching the game have no idea what a free kick has been paid for...
But the faster the game , the less technical they get, agree....
