Who do we really want to keep?

Drop in quality price of growth | The Australian

Mick Malthouse suggests each club will lose an average of five players to support the new Gold Coast and Western Sydney franchises.

It would be fairly easy to nominate five players we'd be happy to hand over to the new clubs, but who do we really want to keep on our list for the next few years at least?

My top 5 "must stay at the Swans" would be:

    Jesse White
    Darren Jolly
    Jarrad McVeigh
    Craig Bird
    Jarred Moore

I'm guessing you mean (with the exception of the best ruckman in the comp) top 5 YOUNG players that must stay at the swans, in which case I agree with your choices except I would have Vez in my list and omit Moore.
I love Moore, but I think Vez has the X factor that we haven't had since the fall from grace of Davis.

I wasn't thinking only of the young guys. Jolly turns 28 this year and I think it's really important we get several more years service out of him.

I'm not sure about Vespremi just yet. We'll see how he goes when he gets back from injury.

              I'll keep everyone except Ablett.

(Yes, I know that's very harsh, but seriously, Ablett's gotta pull up his socks. IMO he's becomming a liability to the rest of the "team".)
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Jolly signed a 4 (or 5?) year contract not that long ago. That will take him up to his early 30s, so if he were to depart then, I don't think it would hurt us that much.

Well with that attitude he will. Hold onto him for dear life. He's a big man who doesn't seem to have a nasty habit of getting injured.

And he can kick and mark to boot.

Keep everyone in the current 22 except Ablett. Keep Pike, Vespa,Johnston, the scholarship boys and Laidlaw and the Gold Coast can have the rest.
