    Finals bound?

I notice that, at this round 9 stage, notwithstanding Sydney being in 5th place, with 5 wins, they are still not favoured by the bookies to make the Finals. The odds vary from $1.80 to $2, depending on which agency you look at.

That said, it is very likely that 11 wins or even 10 wins will be enough to make the 8 this year.

Since 1982, the Swans have failed to make the finals a total of 13 times. The only occasion within that period where Sydney missed the finals after a minimim of 5 wins after round 9, was way back in 1984.

It's just so even. Never seen a ladder like it.

It's hard to get a feel where any of the teams, aside from the Cats and Saint, are at. Tipping is a nightmare.

I hope we make it! - The next 4 rounds will sort the men from the boys.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Too early to tell, and yep Saints look good now, but will they unravel as usual, wouldn't surprise me. The next 4 weeks will tell a tale for us, especially the Crows game, it is a very even comp, when we bat Carlton, but almost get pipped by the Weevils, how could you predict anything?

I can never understand how the draw for the season is how it is. Especially with how St Kilda and Geelong only having to meet each other once. I get that there are x amount of games and x amount of teams but why does this happen if both teams finish in the top eight the year before? With it like it is there wont be any movement at the top surely and makes for a pretty predictable finish even so early in the season.

well if we do make the 8, and I'm sure we will, it's going to be an absolutely monumental effort. If you study our draw carefully, you will see that it actually is quite tough. Maybe even the toughest out of the lot. Geelong, Stkilda and Hawthorn twice, and lets not forget about Collingwood. Away games to Adelaide and the bulldogs(I know, I know, but technically its an away game).

It will be a bloody good effort! I was very concerned when I checked this years draw and still am with all these tough games to come. Ive given us 12 wins:
DOGS - Win, HAWKS - Loss, COLL - Loss (geez i hope im wrong, i just purely went on recent form against them), CROWS - Loss, NORTH - Win, ESS - Win, BLUES - Win, DEES - Win, SAINTS - Loss, TIGERS - Win, CATS - Loss, COLL - Loss, LIONS - Win. Pinch a couple more with one against say collingwood and maybe saints and knocking on door for top 4! (wishful thinking )

What do they say - one game doesnt make a season. While at our best we are definite finals contenders , it was only a two weeks ago that we scraped home against West coast and three weeks ago we were soundly beaten by geelong.

the next month should be interesting, pull together three wins and those odds look very juicy, lose three and you may find us out another point in the betting.

So long as we make another finals, I'll be happy.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Good summation, 13 could get you 4th this year so a win over Adelaide or Collingwood in the next 4 weeks and the rest above could see us 4th and playing the Saints or Geelong at the G in the first week.

The next three games will give a better indication as to our potential finals aspirations.

Beat the Crows and Pies and I reckon we'll do alright in September.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

Our draw is extremely tough, perhaps the toughest of all teams this season. We are one of only three teams that play three of last seasons top four teams twice and that could be telling come seasons end.
On the other end of the spectrum, Carlton have an unbelievably easy draw and don't play ANY top four teams twice! Doesn't seem fair does it?

beating the Pies is seldom achieved of late?

It's not fair but playing the best more frequently should make us lift our game - good finals preparation.

Yep tough draw, but if we can get out of it and be in the top8, we will be better for it.
