    Sydney's Most Improved

If we were to hand out this award after 9 rounds, who would get it? I'll do a short summary on a few players, see if anyone agrees with me.

    (in no particular order)

    Jude Bolton:

It seems his name is brought up on this site as a possible trade/delisting every year, sometimes deservedly so. He's always been a tryer and probably peaked between 2004-2006 which is no suprise given our success. He showed glimpses of his best last year but he's just hit his straps beautifully in 2009, he hasn't got a whole cupboard of skills but he uses his limited talents very very well.

He may look pretty but he does it tougher than Cameron Ling's make-up artist. Suddenly he looks like a much needed player this year and hopefully for 4-5 years yet.

    Rhyce Shaw:

While he wasn't in the red & white last year, he was quite clearly much maligned by many Magpie fans and when we snapped him up many of us were @@@@ting ourselves. I had visions of him being a total spud and giving us many nail-biting moments this year.

We already knew he was fast, but he seems to have the Sonic boots on this year. He adds the pace that we were desperately searching for and his kicking isn't too shabby either.

    Barry Hall:

He may not be kicking bags of 4-6 goals every week, but it's his improved attitude that's made me love him again. He looks fit, scary and serious and that can only be intimidating for the opposition.

Instead of losing his head (or Staker's) he seems to be directing his anger at the ball and lending a hand to teammates when he can. Touch wood, people!

    Darren Jolly:

Possibly the least improved of the 4 I've mentioned so far, but only because he was already awesome last year. Maybe it's just me, but he seems to have a completely rounded game this year, there's no cracks in his paint job.

As I've said in the past, he's easily our most accurate kick for goal and one of the best marks, too. His mobility and smarts have been a blessing this year, popping up all over the ground and right where we need him. He did this in the past, but is now doing it on a weekly basis. Let's hope he keeps on tapping it, to our mids and not the missus.

I'd agree with almost everthing there, but for me the jury on LRT came back in in 2005 when he played the game of his short (read very short) career. I think he's improving all the time and is a valuable member of the back six. Plays on a tall, and if there is one thing our backline lacks it's height, certainly not committment. I love the way B1 plays, hard at it, him and Kirky doing the hard stuff feeding to runners like Goodes and Okeefe, it's a good setup. Delivery in the Port game was so much better than it has been the last tear or so, if we can duplicate that, we'll win games, of course you have to win the ball in the middle first.

Shaw has hugely exceeded my expectations, even though I thought he might be pretty useful for us. But it is hard to assess his improvement given we're watching him far more closely than we have before.

I'm not sure we've had any player improve over the first 9 rounds to the extent that McVeigh (and probably Bevan too) did in 2008. But if I were handing out the award right now I probably give it to someone not on your shortlist - Reg.

I'd say Baz. The combination of hard chasing, feeding team mates as well as feeding off them, kicking a couple of goals and sheer leashed menace makes a huge asset. When he's like that there's no better KP forward playing, and it's a marked improvement on last season's petulance.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Shaw for sure. Compared to the out of sorts clanger king at Collingwood, he has confidence, is a pivotal part of a game plan and is playing the running quarterback role very well. Just needs to straighten us up a lot more out of defence. He is another outstanding example of the Roos player makeover.

Rhyce Shaw has exceeded my expectations. However, by season end, I'm hoping Jessie White gets the nod. If he can continue to improve each game, he could end a up a very damaging player.

Rhyce from the list, LRT a close second.

              Grundy gets my vote though.

Darren Jolly is my most improved.Definately all-Australian ruckman material compared to "good ruckman" last year. He has had a late flowering and agreat mentor in Cox to take his game to a whole new level. It's just not running more, or kicking goals,or presenting in attack and defence,or tackling,or great tapping...its all of these and a sense of where to be on the field.I therefore feel he has improved the most in so many areasof his game.not just one as some of the other candidates have.

Still too early to make constructive comment.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
