help with tickets for hawks game!

    Hey guys and gals.

I'm going to Melbourne with some friends and family for the long weekend and will be going to the hawks v swans game (and hopefully stick it to my die hard hawks pals).

However, I have reached a little glitch regarding tickets. When I logged on to ticketek 2 weeks ago they only had the ponsford stand, the others said "Allocation exhausted" which I highly doubt would be the case.

Ok so I thought I'd wait till the lead up to the game in the hope they'd release great southern stand tickets. Well they have, but only the bay behind the posts (m1).

I decided to check the tix for games such as melb v collingwood, ess v collingwood and ess v carlton and they all had the entire GSS available.

I highly doubt this game is a sellout for general public and members tix and I really want seats in the southern stand or even olympic stand. I'm not a member and am sort of in a panic that I can't get tix to the game. Do they release each bay progressively or something?

help! any info would be much much appreciated.

    cheers!

Ticketek frustratingly release tickets to the public in waves. So generally when the first wave sells out they release another batch.

If you are a member, just roll up on the day and entry will be fine. The last few years have been good crowds of around 40k but still not enough to make seating a problem.
    Onwards to Victory!

I'm going down as well ... I doubt there'd be no tickets available on the day. This isn't Coll V Ess ... we won't get 90K.

We've bought them before on the day and haven't had a problem.

Unless there's a danger of a sellout, I've always bought at the gate. Even last year when we went down for the Dogs Semi-Final we purchased at the gate. There is less of a choice and for larger groups you might lose the certainty of having continuous seats but I'd be surprised if you had any problems. Also, I'd be surprised if there were more than 40k at the game.

No need to buy tickets beforehand, although there should be a very healthy crowd of around 45,000 if we both win this weekend.

Just a couple of things, don't go to the bottom of the Southern Stand. This is the Hawthorn cheer squad and members area so you won't want to sit down that end.

The Swans cheer squad and the bulk of the support will be on level 1 of the Ponsford stand which is GA and you will be able to comfortably walk up and sit here 20 to 30 minutes before the game.

            Enjoy.

Don't waste your time and money booking tickets beforehand, just turn up and get them at the gate.

Hey thanks everyone for the info, appreciated.

I'm not a member this year. I checked ticketek and there's only single seats for the Ponsford stand. My touring party reckon the best view is level 2 GSS so I'd like to sit there if possible. I doubt we'd get more than 50,000 fans even with comprehensive wins this week.

If I purchase at the gate can I request exactly where I want to sit (if available) ?

As I recall, you can ask for what seats are available. You need a patient operator and perhaps a queue which is not too long otherwise the people behind you can get a bit cranky.

On the same subject, I'm comming down to the Swans v Wobbles game in August.

Most games I've been to at the MCG I have just turned up on the day with no problem but that was with 2 or 3 people.

This time there are going to be 8 to 10 of us. Currently Ticketek have only GSS tickets which I don't really want ( I hate looking into the sun).

I personally like the lower section of Olympic or Ponsford but they are not available at this stage and I assume Ponsford would be full of the Black & White Bogans anyway.

                    Any recommendations?

LESSON TO SYDNEY TRAVELLER HEADING TO MELBOURNE-PART I
-Docklands= pre book if you want Level 1 seating. Otherwise rock up on the day & sit on Level 3. (Or do the swifty and show your membership at one of the gates & get a Level 1 ticket behind the goals, the AFL often does this to fill up the seats for the cameras.)

PART 2-MCG=no real need to pre-booked. You can get brilliant seats by just rocking up at the gate on match day. You don't even have to rock up early. My tip, try the padded seats on the second level behind the goals in the new stand. They are still GA price, the view of the match is superb, you are likely to be in the majority in that area of of the ground & the Swans after-match is right next door.

The MCG truly is the people's ground.

The last time we played the Pies the bluecoats were really funny re tickets. We got in with our cheer squad memberships, but others *cough cough Swantastic* had a great deal of difficulty getting into our area.

Definitely avoid the Ponsford Stand that day.It is Magpie feral central. If you need me to try and smuggle yourselves in near us, I can always try. But need to be bribed with alcohol at the Cricketers Arms across the road beforehand.

Most of Level 2 GSS is reserved for AFL memberships just in front of Corporate Boxes. Same with level 3.
So its generally top level where there are 40,000 seats that you move to.
Lots of choice and normally relatively easy to get a seat near friendly red and white supporters.

I haven't been to the G for years. What is the best place to sit? I'd have thought GSS if you can get level 2 or the back part of level one and as close to M15-M16 as possible so you have a panoramic view of the massive stadium with a slight elevation.

JF I'm guessing you're referring to the Olympic stand? Towards the front of L2? You don't think the view would be a bit skewed being behind the posts?
