    Region of origin

Thought it might be interesting to test this idea that the Swans have little appeal to anyone west of Strathfield by doing a straw poll of where a cross-section of Swans fans - ie RWOers - consider to be their region of origin in terms of supporting the Swans.

So not where do you currently live, but more which region of Sydney/NSW/rest of the country do you consider you come from. Where were you living when the Swans caught your interest?

Sorry - only so many options allowed in a poll - so I was bound to upset some. Pick whichever you consider closest to where you consider yourself from. I guess I always think of the Pacific Highway as an extension of the LNS, though I realise that by the time you get to Hornsby you're a fair way north.

Even though I find the decision to place Newcastle as part of Greater Sydney as abhorrent, I still ticked that option.

              Parramatta is now west?

Anyway, I went with Northwest as I am ever so slightly closer to Rouse Hill than Blacktown!!

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I suppose Bankstown is really part of the southwest, isn't it? Everyone in Sydney regarded us as western suburbs, we regarded Parramatta and beyond as western suburbs.

Actually, we never considered Penrith as part of Sydney's western suburbs. We considered that part of the Blue Mountains.

I took a while to work it out. I grew up in Randwick but didn't start following AFL until 3-4 years after we moved to Melbourne. With the interest in AFL came the choice of a team, and given where we (the family) came from, the Swans were a natural choice. So, eastern suburbs.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Canberra is lumped with other NSW ?

I reckon there will be a relatively even spread in any case

Really really sorry( ) if I have offended anyone with my choice of geographical regions. I was really trying to just divvy the city/state/country up within the constraint of the 10 poll options that RWO provides. I am just curious to see whether the notion that the Swans' heartland is dominated by the Eastern Suburbs/LNS set (South Melbournites aside) holds true, at least on RWO.

I'm pretty sure that residents of the Blue Mountains would disagree with that!

Haha yes. I have always regarded "West" as being between Blacktown and Penrith. Any further west and it becomes "Mountains"

We do. We look down on those Penrith folk (literally).
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.
