Robert Walls must be a happy man tonight

because Bazza made his long awaited return in the ruck, albeit for forward 50 throwins only. I never understood why we abandoned this tactic as he is definitely one of the best in getting his hands first to the ball, sometimes through pure brute strength. Plus, he's hardly going to be the rover picking off Jolly/White's tap so I'm happy to see him return to this role (and happy for Wallsy too)

No no, ugg; it'll just frustrate him further. Glimpses of what he could do, but not a true run in the ruck.

Could this be Roos' revenge on Wallsy?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I thought winning the 2005 flag was served cold enough?

Bazza probably won't be of much use in the centre bounces given he can't jump much higher than your average bear.

I just wonder if this tactic will last. I was watching where Jolly was playing during these throw-ins and he was sitting way back in our half, covering no Pie player in particular. And I don't think we were that worried about the impact of Cloke/Anthony at all.

I agree. It was great to see Hall back in the ruck in the 3rd quarter and he did spectacularly well - in fact his whole attack on the football in the 3rd was brilliant.

Whilst talking about ruckwork, I'm surprised there's not a thread of it's own about Darren Jolly's game. 53 hitouts, vitually all straight down the throat of a teammate running by, and virtually all fumbled, dropped, mangled and hacked by Goodes, Bolton, McVeigh et al. Probably the most dominant display of ruckwork I've seen in 40 years of watching AFL!

I don't think he would be much use, and dare I say Wallsy doesn't think he would be either. But that's the genius of Walls.

I agree, he was fabulous. O'keefe also deserves an honorable mention 41 poss and a goal, in a tireless display

getting Hall where the ball is always helps Baz's confidence, it was interesting to note how Hall improved in that qrtr.

Haha!! Hall didn't have a bad game but the delivery into the forward line was atrocious once again.

It looked awful, shown up all the more by Smith's beautifully weighted kick to Hall. Why can't they kick in front of the forwards more often?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Hall's game lifts dramatically when he is on the ball, he is seriously wasted and frustrated hangin around full forward being scragged by two defenders, he would go really well rotating with Goodes at the centre bounces, he is quicker and stronger thru traffic as any other Swans on baller there is. The more he gets his hands on the leather , the better the team performs around him.

It's a mystery why Hall is not used in this role. It would certainly be worth trying.
