I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been a bit more love for Craig Bird after Saturday night.

Certainly nobody has criticised him, but I thought he was way better than just good/OK. Some of his work, both in close and when in a bit of space on the wing was absolutely first rate. Best game of his career so far and he certainly got votes from me in the TLM.

I think the days of Bird being considered as having an occasional spell in the 2's are gone forever and the engine room is looking in real safe hands as far as I'm concerned.

In a few years Bird, Smith and Hanneberry are going to make a very, very handy tough midfield. Going forward, the focus needs to be on outside mids to complement them.

Except for being run down from behind in the 2nd term (I thought it might have been monty), he showed why he is considered a class footballer.

The one play that is easily remembered was the trapping of the ball and spinning around with all the time in the world to hit MOL on the chest, who then gave it to Moore(?) for a goal.

And yes, he got some of my 6 votes as well.

I took a European born soccer/afl follower along to the game and he commented that the Swans seemed to be lacking communication on field. When Bird got run down he thought it was like a mistake a soccer team a lowly ranked side would be hammered for.

He has a "football brain" and anticipates well while keeping calm. I tend agree that his being run down was a lack of communication. (Although, he's not the speediest player, just one of the more natural ones.)

He is very slow. But he has a one grab pick up and tremendous field vision. He definitely needs to play inside and as his body strengthens he will become a very good midfielder. We have an outstanding outside midfield potential in Barlow. And a very good outside midfielder in McVeigh.
