ANZ STadium bought by Mike Fitzpatrick consortium

NEWS FLASH ON 3 AW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just announced ANZ Stadium at Homebush purchased by AFL consortium.

    Caro on after 6:30pm

Gerard was laughing about Roy Masters having a hissy fit!

Major news for AFL development in Sydney and NSW. This will be of major benefit for the SWans I imagine because they will be able to reap profits.

Fancy AFL in NSW benefiting from rugby league games. I like to see that!

Not sure about this, for I believe that the stadium management give the rugby league clubs monetary incentives to play there irregardless of the actual crowd that attends. Others on here may know for certain.

Unless the new owners insist the Swans play more games out there! I assume our SCG contract is locked in however...

They did talk tonight about the Showground being converted to an AFL ground. I was under the impression that the current NSW Government withdraw funding to this project.

If The AFL based consortium control the ground, I imagine they will control the profits as well. What better way to prop up a new Sydney AFL side. I imagine the weekends that the AFL isn't playing, there will be an NRL game probably every other day.

The Swans contract will stay pretty much as it is now. Probably 3 to 4 season games there plus finals.

They'll risk loosing plenty of their traditional Sydney supporters if the Swans are forced to play more games at this white elephant of a stadium.
The SCG is our home. A full SCG last saturday night, on it's small confines, would have more than likely resulted in a stirring win instead of the deflating loss at the atmosphere free ANZ.

            Has this been confirmed?

Nothing on the AFL site at this stage and the missus is watching CSI so I'm more chance of getting tetanus than getting Fox Sports news on the TV atm.

So reading that, Fitzpatrick leads up a consortium who have bought a controlling share, but it's not an AFL consortium.

The only link to AFL is he is chairman of both the AFL commission and the controlling ANZ consortium.

In short, the AFL has NOT bought Homebush.

                    Correct?

Now, now, some of us just don't like watching footy at the swamp.

I'm sure I saw the Swamp Thing lining up for a train after the Collyfilth game on Saturday. Or it could have been a filth supporter that couldn't get into the Brewery.

A good media headline but it has no real pratical effect at this stage.

The fund has shareholders (not the AFL) that want a maximum ROI. That does not come from AFL at this stage. It is likely to evolve though with a second team and much more interest in AFL in Sydney.

When AFL has more clout - e.g. when we have AFL derby's and a second team at ANZ - AFL will have more say in ANZ fixturing.

In this case, the ownership is of little consequence.
