You will Never beat Adelaide trying to shut down their dynamic forward structure. You can starve them from the centre line but having a defensive frame of mind to maybe just stop them beating us by 10 goals and only 5 plays into their hands..The selection team has put us up against it before the ball is bounced. With Adelaide's horde of smaller forward options, including midfielders like Knights who can drift forward, guys like Crouch are needed. So long as he's fit (and I guess he recovered well after playing injured last week), he needs to be out there. I thought he wouldn't be fit, but, unless Roos and Crouch are making the same mistake they made last week, I guess I was wrong.Comment

While I agree with that, you can't ignore raw matchups either. Whatever the attitude taken, we need a defender for every one of their forwards. If Crouch was omitted for, as an example, O'Dwyer, do we have O'Dwyer playing in defence? O'Dwyer, or anybody else you may choose, may be a more attacking player, but it would be wasted. We need to win the ball out of the centre and deliver it forward effectively, of course, but what happens when the ball rebounds? We can't rely on an attacking player to shut down Porplyzia, Knights, Dangerfield, whoever, and if we did, that attacking player would sacrifice their entire attacking game anyway. You will Never beat Adelaide trying to shut down their dynamic forward structure. You can starve them from the centre line but having a defensive frame of mind to maybe just stop them beating us by 10 goals and only 5 plays into their hands..The selection team has put us up against it before the ball is bounced.
Basically, what I'm saying is that it takes all types. I'm not saying we should try to blanket the Adelaide forwardline and rely on that. But to go in with only Bevan as a genuine small defender option would be absolute madness.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

It's hard to believe he could be anywhere near fit after watching him last sat. With Adelaide's horde of smaller forward options, including midfielders like Knights who can drift forward, guys like Crouch are needed. Also hard to believe playing last week would of improved his injury.
I also think Ablett will come in, in his place.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

People are forgetting we have bugger-all players to select from. I'd say, outside of the emergencies, pretty much everyone is unavailable. We're getting to the stage where someone should pick up Hanneberry from school and put him on the plane to Adelaide! Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Simply disgraceful. Can anyone justify the dropping of a promising, skillful tough young player - Moore and the retention of an unfit, unskillful and slow 31 year old??? And we are rebuilding. Right.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

Been said before but if only we had two or three Bevos. However, a young player given the tagger role learns so much about the game. The Crouch selection just shows our selectors are gutless. We have to throw some caution to the wind to give these young kids the opportunity to develop. To tag the Crows smalls you need two basic things, fitness and pace. The creaking Couch has neither. Maybe Bulldog is being honest about his injuries?

Our lack of quality taggers, so clearly demonstrated in our exit in last year's finals series, makes it hard to replace Crouch.
No doubt you have blocked the Herald Sun's description of Bevan as "outpaced and outclassed" and a "dream match-up for his opponent" from your memory...Last edited by Donners; 26 June 2009, 11:49 AM.Comment

They play totally different roles, I can't see Moore playing in Crouch's position. Besides, I'd put my money on Crouch in a sprint between the two.Been said before but if only we had two or three Bevos. However, a young player given the tagger role learns so much about the game. I agree, put in a quick, fit reserve grader and let him learn, while the coaches also learn about him. O'Dwyer might not be a tagger, but he has pace, if he's fit give him a specific run with role and let's see what he's got. Yep Mick Craphouse put Daisy on him and . . . . Not only have I blocked the idiocies of a footballing ignoramous from my razor sharp memory I've blocked everything from that Murdoch rag. Except the flush down the dunny. The Bevanator is our best small defender by a mile. And our most versatile player by a million miles. Not only does he tag like a blue heeler before tucker time but he quarterbacks, takes pack marks and snaffles off the packs up forward. Crouch is easily replaced. He should have been replaced in game one this season. Our lack of quality taggers, so clearly demonstrated in our exit in last year's finals series, makes it hard to replace Crouch.
