Henry Playfair - the forgotten man

For a bloke listed as having a hamstring strain (that's a strain, not a tear) how is it that this chap still hasn't taken the field by round 14? Anyone clued up about the status of this strain of all strains?

Where does he fit into the grand scheme of things? Is he expected to play a role in Swanland 2010? Would our forward line have functioned better with his presence to date?

I'm not sure that Playfair has been any more than handy in his brief career with the Bloods but then again his opportunities to impress have been limited to date. I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts of others re our MIA key forward.

The hamstring has been an ongoing problem for him and he ended up having what was essentially season-ending surgery on it in May/

I think that the fallout from Mr Hall's playful lovetap on the weekend suggests that, hammy or not, Mr Playfair may have received a lifeline for Season 2010.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I don't know why but I still hold great hopes out for Playfair, always have.

Maybe it's because my Schneider and Moore banners have been pretty useless lately and still have plans for the Playfair banner.

I may have found a solution to your dilemma. Invest in a 'W' and two 'O's juggle the letters about and voila! you've got your very own Moose Henwood banner.

I think a lot of people forget how well our forward line functioned with him in it while Hall was out suspended last year.

I feel he is a massive loss, a big body up forward, a lot better than Grundy. Goodes wouldnt be pushed up there more often to try to help us kick goals. I love Goodes around the stopages, not enough skill in this area. I love seeing Kirk and Goodes around stopages

It went well but we didn't beat anyone of any quality so we may well have gone just as well, or better, with Hall there. The other thing is, O'Loughlin was playing really well and making a solid contribution every week - the 2009 version is a long way off the 2008 version.

Funny you should mention Lumpy, I miss him. He is not a very exciting player, but he could be very useful. Hope he makes it back. Its horrid to just slip out of contention unnoticed.

Poor guy has had a terrible run.

The tall forward underwent a third operation on his troublesome hamstring last month, effectively ruling him out of playing this year.
The operation involved slicing his hamstring tendon in half at its upper attachment and stapling it to the bone, securing the tendon and freeing the associated nerves that were causing him so much pain
                    Ouch.

He makes his presence felt in the forward line but his kicking is erratic.

The forward line was functioning very well without Hall last year. The irony now is with delivery into the 50 so terrible we couldn't be Hallcentric if we wanted to (and if were only kicking to Bazza he seems to have captured enough form to be punishing teams).

I was loving the Barry Who chant whenever someone kicked a goal.

He's had hamstring problems his whole career.
IMO he is an ordinary CHF at best. He's slow, not particually hard/ aggressive at it, and his kicking is dubious. From memory he's about 26 or 27 years old....to say the least, he hasn't worked out. Time to lick yet another Geelong inflicted wound and move on.

Provided some good glimpses and added some structure to the forward line, but we cannot carry injury prone players and he should be cut adrift.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
