He didn't say that when we recruited him. He didn't say that after he hit Maguire in the bread basket. Be he was signed. But he played in the GF. Why is it so important that he say it now.? By the way no player can honestly give that undertaking.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

Just what were Malthouse's instructions in regard to Hall? Was he instructed to niggle? Instructed to provoke? Not only are instructions like that from a coach against the rules they should lead to coaches who use provocation being rubbed out as should the provoker and the rertaliator.Comment

Barry has appeared, to me, to be attempting to deal honestly with his inability to control his fists on the footy ground. He's never said categorically that he wouldn't promise it wouldn't happen again - that's showing an awareness of himself.
Good on you Barry - I'll miss your attacking way of playing. Every team needs a bit of the mongrel. I teared up yesterday when he came by the Brewongle for a standing ovation. I hope it all works out for him.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

I drove up from Canberra and took my 5yr old to the game on Saturday. I have to stress that Barry is my boy's first hero...and he loves his footy. My son was crying and screaming when he did the parade on the truck, and still doesnt get it that Barry won't be playing anymore. He said "Dad can we get Barry's phone number so I can still ring him"...I was absolutely shattered.
Great man for this club, as we see this season slipping away, I am finding it hard to explain to a boy who tells the world that the big #1 is his favourite (and he is fully aware of all the indiscretions as he tells Barry to just "play awesome" and not get angry)
I got the feeling for the first time on the weekend that winning or losing doesnt matter to my son as long as he got to see his hero play. And to tell you the honest truth I couldnt have cared less on the result on the weekend, but to see my boy wave goodbye to his hero was everything.
I now have to get some DVD's....."We talked five times. I called him twice, and he called me twice."   :D

I might replicate your sons reaction in Rd22 when Magic goes...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

But that sort of stuff goes on in every game, and our players shrug off players regularly, and players don't line up another players jaw when they are not looking. Regardless of how hard the hit was it was deliberate and stupid and with his record 2 weeks was a generous result.
The Wakelin hit wasn't that hard either but as Wakelin said on radio last week, it wasn't just an air punch to scare him, it made clear connection and for the rest of the game he was on his guard waiting for the next one.Comment
