White now has one less week to play along side Michael O'Loughlin.

God people, hardly surprising that the selectors have choosen not to go with another ruckman against a team that is considered the quickest in the AFL. They were never going to play Pyke this week.
Case in point last week, North played 4 ruckman and run out of puff against us who are not overly quick.
As for Ablett in and no White, a case can be made. But White strikes me as a bloke that needs to handled very closely to get the best out of him for the team. Not surprising that the match committee would be sending him a little message to say, it's up to you big fella earn the spot and it's yours. Far too many teams that play kids just hand games to them on a platter which does nothing for their development ie Richmond is a classic case in point.
Saying all that White would be seriously close to getting a late call up this week.
No issue with Ablett playing, seasoned player and while the finals are a still a chance you play the best team you can that can do the job for you.
As for DOK, please leave him the reserves for an extended period. He has had a horrible run with injuries and he should be left in the reserves to string 12 or so games together, get solid game time and build his confidence. If by round 20 he is still going strong reward him with a game in readiness for next year.

If 8.6 isn't enough to earn you a game in a side crying out for a target to kick to, then I don't know what is.Bloods

The MC have gone with a runner and that makes some sense due to how quick the Bombers are.
However, as explained above maybe the MC think they need to make sure White's head is in the right spot before he gets recalled so they have choosen to leave him the reserves for another week to earn his spot. Afterall his last outing in Adelaide didn't particularly show he was switched on.
The las thing that we want is for the young blokes just thinking they are going to get a game because it's their turn.
Outside of that I agree he should get atleast the last 6 or 7 weeks as a key forward target in preperation for next year.

Didn't think this selection would be well received here - and I tend to agree. The only thing I can think is that Ablett is being told he's got a couple of weeks to save his career.Comment

Obviously last chance dance time for Luke. And fair enough that he be given that chance too. All those on here saying play the kids (we don't care about finals), should therefore not be too worried about Ablett's selection.
Jesse kicked 8, but he missed another 6. He isn't going to get 14 opportunities in the seniors, so perhaps the match committee felt they weren't sacrificing too many goals by leaving him out.
Bombers are speedy, and possible wet conditons won't suit a tall overhead marking forward, so obviously Ablett is in as a stopper. Give him a break - if he flops badly this week, or squeaks through and lasts a few more matches without inspiring, then he will obviously be gone. Will Jesse miss out on much by practicing his aim in the magoos rather than in the seniors? Probably not, and he will be in the thick of things soon enough.Comment

Some here say White should have kicked 12!! If you have played FF you would appreciate how difficult a position it is - if the delivery is good it makes it less difficult. But timing leads making position reading the play still comes into it.
From what some of you have stated anywon could have played FF and they would have done the same - FFS get a clue!

Read the whole post and not just part of it. It would hardly be the first time that someone in reserves played a blinder and was left there by Roos because he didn't conform to the team plan or some other minor infraction...maybe he doesn't have the coveted photos of Roos that Ablett obviously has.
I have been waiting for someone who saw him play last week to weigh in...did you?
The point was that by doing this he will be more hungary and driven. The position will be earned not given. As I said before short term loss, long term gain. No doubt he will be there next week. (if not this week-late change)
As an aside - has anyone considered that this may be part of something else...ie GC17. White would be my No.2 target after Tippet - you would think at this stage the club would have some idea of what's going on with White. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

"Jesse been a bit crook actually with the flu, so he's probably 50-50 at this stage to play [in the reserves]," Roos said.Comment

But does that mean he was going to play reserves anyway - or he was sick so they thought if he plays he should play ressies?Last edited by Bloody Hell; 10 July 2009, 02:23 AM.The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

No queue to fill Barry Hall's boots at Sydney Swans | Daily Telegraph
White had the flu, which is prob why he isn't playing. Says he is a 50/50 so im guessing if he pulls up, he will come in for someone, preferably Ablett.Comment

The appalling backward looking sellection, of Ablett over youth, is so predictable and so Paul Roos. Spins the crap about "playing the kids, and perservering with them when faced with inconsistent form", then delivers the same old crap sellections based on the dim and distant past.
Once again he chosen to perservere with what he knows rather than learn about what he's got. One poor game and Thornton gets dropped, one poor game and Brabazon gets dropped. Crueling any chance of confidence building via continuity. If he had to go for an established senior player then surely Monty, who can actually run the lines, should get a game ahead of Ablett.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... Facts are both Braba and Thornton have both been given game time and while doing reasonably well have trailled off in their second or third game.
A finals spot is still up for grabs and 22 are needed this week, so while even Ablett maybe a shadow of his former self, he is likely to be contributing more than either or Brab or Thornton at present.
