Heard on the radio something about the AFL eliminating the possibility of a drawn game.
Presumably the same way the do in finals.

Having been at a drawn game before, the mood after the game is really weird.
No-one is happy, no-one is sad. Everyone is zombie-like.

So I'm thinking that I would be in favour of getting an outcome either way, particularly since these days teams know exactly how much time is left on the clock.

So I'll make a poll!

A draw says niether team was good enough to win. As a spectacle it makes sense to remove it, but I think sudden death should be reserved for games where a winner has tp be decided (ie finals). Soccer does the same thing and it seems to work alright

They just can't leave things alone, can they? If it's a draw, it's a draw.

FOr finals, fair enough, let's have extra time.

But for minor round games it's no biggie.

I'm sure the TV networks are pushing for a change. An extra 30 minutes of AFL for free.

After the first Ashes test, I was kinda thinking that maybe they could add extra days to get a result.
I mean, 5 days of play for nothing. Frustrating.

Don't change the H&A at all. There's already talk of St Kilda being disadvantaged this week against the Dogs with one team playing the first game of the round and the last. What would the situation be if St Kilda had to play say double extra time to get result the week before??? It just opens things up to further unevenness....just keep the extra time for finals.

Listening to this argument on Footy Classified last night, Hutchy was making stupid comments about playing extra time to avoid a drawn result. Caro and Garry Lyon were happy leaving it as it is. The NRL went to extra time to avoid draws and there's many people that now think it was a bad move. My view is that during the Home and Away, games should be played within the allocated time and if a draw occurs so be it. We seem to be fixated with getting results all the time as if there is something wrong with having a draw.
Remember that there was once a time when a Brownlow result couldn't be a draw and the winner was determined on a countback based on the greatest number of "three pointers" (not sure how a deadlock was broken there). Now, they're happy to award multiple Brownlows and I don't know that they have been devalued in any way.

Imagine deadheating in a Marathon run and then having a hundred metre sprint to decide the winner!

I always thought the golden point in NRL was a good idea until I was at the drawn game we had with the Lions.
As CTS said, the mood afterward was really weird, but I would have been shattered if we had played extra time or golden point or whatever and had lost that game.

I like draws (well, the chance for them, I mean). Having grown up around american "one must win! otherwise why play?" style sports, the idea of a mysterious third outcome to a game adds a bit of spice to it all for me.

And they seem to be pretty rare, so it's like an eclipse - something odd that people talk about for years to come.

The draw is a valid result. Leave it be.

I remember thinking at the infamous St Kilda / Sydney game at halftime that a draw would be the most fitting result because quite frankly neither team deserved to win.

I guess I was the only one who left happy that night

I see most want to keep the draw which is not surprising considering we find it acceptable to watch a sporting contest for 5 whole days and not have a result.
