I don't go along with the Kel kick that dropped short theory. I reckon we probably had it lost a week earlier after we slogged it out against the Bombers. We were spent. North had a nice cruisy PF against the Bears from memory. Then there was the all-consuming Dunkley incident during GF week. Could have done without it, and Dunkley consequently played a shocker.

As for Plugger and his dodgy groin......he had 3 goals by quarter time. Legend.
Actually Dunkley played pretty well seeing as he was playing on the best player in the league when he was genuinely the best player in the league. (Apart from the missed punch - and in fairness that was one of those mongrel punts which didn't spin properly anyway) There were pretty few marks and goals to carey in the game even when they got completely on top. Our problem was half forward - Mooney had played some really good footy that year but basically disappeared and our style which had allowed plugger lots of space to lead to at the scg worked against us when we needed to carry our kicks just 20 metres more. So for most of the third quarter when it was a real arm wrestle our half backs stood up really well (heuskes and seymour did pretty well that day) but the ball would get to their half back line and come back very fast.

I also tend to think this game was the last GF where the sort of thuggish tactics used by North had some impact. A few already mentioned here but what about the roundhouse right miles off the ball by Schwatta on Luff. Don't think it made it on the main broadcast but have seen footage of it. Haven't seen anything like that in a GF since.
Don't remember alastair lynch and wakelin then ?

        IIRC 2004 happened after 1996.

You obviously didn't see Alistair Lynch's farewell game then!! It was a GF.

It is a bit rich to have a sook about Schwass when Dunkley should not have even been playing! Also BBBH was lucky to make it to a GF - when the tribunal gave him a reprieve for an "in play incident" - to say nothing of his more recent form with his fists!!

I'm all for free discussion, but is there any reason Kanga feels the need to live on this site? He doesn't seem to contribute except to reminisce about North wins and put @@@@ on us? Any relevance I'm missing?

He's trying desperately to come out of the closet.
He dreams of wearing the Red and white.

I generally only get on here to add a little spice to the forum. Surely you don't mind someone taking a contrary view...?

Fair call about the 98 GF. That was a disgraceful display!

Good luck against the Sainters this weekend - they need to lose a match this season - could this be the one? Given they play Hawthorn, Essendon, North then Melbourne - the only other likely game they may possibly drop is Hawks in L'ton.

He's looking for a football team to follow for when his team merges with the Gold Coast.

Wants to retire up North do you think? Move up there Kanga, or pay your dues and join the Swans, or go away.

Oy, this is our board and I can be as one eye sookey as I like.

And for the others Lynch Wakelin, yeah yeah he was going out literally swinging so that doesn't count.

As for Hall, I don't recall him taking anyone out........................ for a whole game....................... in a finals series!!!!!!!

And Dunkely, was there ever any footage of that. I don't recall seeing any???

I dont mind Kanga, he's usually harmless and often has nice things to say about the swans. He's only paying out in this thread cause its in reverence to the 1996 Grand Final. We did play the kangaroos in that game you know people.
