The "Death Seat"

I have just been reading that the forward pocket spot is known as "The Death Seat" in the AFL.
Maybe it's time we relieved Moore of that position and see what others who have not played there before go.Veszpremi has had a few games there and hasn't set the world on fire.Aussie Jones writes about it in an interview about Stephen Milne in todays Age. Apparantly Milne took years and hard work to get to this years standards.

The problem with the forward pocket and the Sydney Swans is the ball doesn't go there very often.

It used to be the spot for resting rovers....not the bench as it is now. Many great rovers over the years caused havoc in the forward pocket as they were usec there as "goal sneaks".

One of the most difficult positions in the game. No one ever kicks the ball to you. Have to rely on crumbing, which is difficult when the opposition floods and your team works it inside by chip passing.

Bottom of the pack. Kirk did OK there. Moore has the potential to be a clearance machine. He has that rare ability to stand up in a tackle and dish off. Joel Selwood isn't tall or pacy, and doesn't have that much endurance either (better than Moore, I'll give you that). But if you can win the hard ball, throw yourself into packs like a cannonball, stand up in the tackle and deliver, you'll be fine.

Moore has a stong body core and,as other have said,can stand up in a tackle.It was noticable against the Saints and some of his tackling was ferocious.I think he is the man to take over from Kirk when he retires.Moore has not reached his physical peak yet also,
