Well informed article, even mentioned Fosdike as a retiring player.

Does mention that he retired after the official lists were done for the year.

while Nic Fosdike and Tadhg Kennelly (unless he returns from Ireland) are still to be officially delisted after leaving the club after this year's list was finalised.

Andrew Ireland, puts the plight of a handful of mostly veteran players in fairly blunt terms.
"A good month of footy is much better than a bad month of footy when you're looking at one of the last spots left on a list," he said.
While not keen to talk about individuals, Roos is eager to make it clear no decisions have been made on any players and that they would not be judged on the handful of remaining games - particularly those such as Ablett.
Well at the very least the players know where they stand!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Roos suggests there are also some younger recruits, who through form or fitness have not made a significant impact, who will come under close scrutiny.

          Interesting. Laidlaw? Schmidt? Brabazon? DOK?

Way to early to call a day on DOK and both Schmidt and Laidlaw have shown enough when not injured to suggest they can make it at senior level if they can get their bodies right.

Comments probably aimed at both Brabazon and MOD who have both had considerable game time in the two's and for issues with disposal don't look up to senior football.

I would like to see 8 go off the list at the end of the year, to be replaced by 2-3 rookie promotions, 4-5 national draft picks and 1 preseason draft pick.

Beyond the known 5 retirees (though has Leo made an announcement), any 3 of Ablett, Buchanan, Crouch, Playfair, Schmidt, Laidlaw, Brabazon and O'Dwyer could be gone next year. I doubt any of these are tradable.

My guess is that Schmidt, Laidlaw & Playfair will get one more year to get injury-free and make a contribution in the seniors, and that 2 of Ablett/Buchanan/Crouch will go, and 1 of Brabazon/O'Dwyer. Right now Crouch offers the most of the senior three.

I doubt Crouch is in the future plans.

Also, DOK has had 3(?) years on the list which would seem ample time to make a decision on his future. If he's beset by chronic injury problems then it will go down as a poor choice by the Swans in a very good draft. I hold hopes for him but reserves reports don't indicate he's a class above.

If Schmidt does get the chop, which I hope he doesn't,Port Adelaide may have a look at him as he is an Adelaide boy whose potential is still unknown to a large degree.

But two of those years he barely played any footy, and even when he was on the ground, he looked like he was sore. If his groins were still causing him problems, it might make sense to conclude he was unlikely to get over them. But for the most part he's looked this year like he was moving well, which suggests he is on top of the groin problems. In which case, surely you judge this year almost as just his first year playing reserves. He has played the odd game of very good football, which suggests he has the skills.

                      I don't see it.

I stated in another thread he is coming back from a long term injury and I hope he is kept on. I rate him highly.

Smith has emerged as the man to play on the small HFF. The only other person to play on the small forward pocket is Bevan...

I don't see who he's keeping out or who will replace him. Bevan cannot play on the last line.

I hope he stays as well, one of the SA clubs would definately grab him and we regret this in time.

Those two guys I highlighted won't go. Schmidt is a tough mid that we need, while Ablett has been pretty decent in recent weeks and we need one of those 27-28 yr old players with so many players leaving. We gotta be conservative with our list like Adelaide. We can't just get rid of players.
