After today I don't think O'Dwyer will go.
Swans List to go under the knife

Agree, it will probably be between him and Brabazon for the cut and on todays form he did alot more than Braba did when given a chance. Reserves watches indicate that he has run and carry, can go in and get the thing but lacks finishing skills, while todays game didn't have a heap of intensity he seemed to select and hit a target well.
If we end up losing Playfair to injury I can't really see them getting rid of anyone else considering that we are losing the following already:
Hall
Magic
Leo
Fosdike
Crouch
Kennelly (probably)
That's eight right there are we are unlikely to want to use 7 picks in a draft that is said to lack depth.

Those two guys I highlighted won't go. Schmidt is a tough mid that we need, while Ablett has been pretty decent in recent weeks and we need one of those 27-28 yr old players with so many players leaving. We gotta be conservative with our list like Adelaide. We can't just get rid of players.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

I know Ablett has his share of haters on this site, but you have to remember this year that he is still getting over Dengue fever. For some people this can take more than a year. having seen his last few games I would suggest that he is probably just about on top of it now, hence his improvement in form.Comment

Ablett kicked a ball out of bounds on the full.
Not a surprise, no. The problem was..it was during the warm up. How can a player with such terrible skills be considered an AFL footballer? He seriously has no reedeming qualities. I may bang on about it on here - I certainly do at games when I see his nill contribution in person, but I really do not see anything he brings to the team.Comment

I thought Ablett has been good in the forward line. His offensive pressure is excellent and he's contributed to and scored a couple of goals a game.
He's doing his job.Comment

He doesn't have the agility or pace to lay a tackle, as far as I can tell the only time he does is when a team mate has made an initial tackle and he double teams.
One goal a game is not what you want from a half forward flanker. I think "his job" could be done by a player with much more ability and facets to their game than a couple of tackles and a mongrel punt that goes higher than it does deep.Comment

If we had other options to select from I might agree. Bevo needs to find form, Vesz is not fully fit and another week on the sideline won't help and I can't think of anyone else available?
I thought he did a good job on Tambling today. I have no problem with his selection or his contribution.Comment

I think this is a myth about him. Hell, he only averages three tackles a game.

BTW watch the game on Tv and you will see Ablett doing a lot of stuff that you couldn't or maybe chose not to see.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Don't you just love it when people bang on about a player who has had a life threatening illness in the last 12 months and have no regard for what they have been battling. Then they stub their toe and want sympathy from others.

I want the best for my team. Imo that means no Ablett - I would even prefer to see Bevan in there in the short term. Or Laidlaw, Thornton... A half forward flanker with the limitations he has is hardly a necessary part of a football side, next year he should not be on the list, that's all there is too it, I don't care what illnesses he's had.Comment

How is Ablett in any better "form" than Bevan?
Would rather Bevo or Vez in the 22 ahead of AblettComment

I think we would all agree that Bevo has been struggling for form. I'd have been happy with he or Ablett in the side.
Vesz is lacking match fitness. If he was fit he would be a walk up start but that might be at Moore's expense. But this thread is about cutting the list and I would rather keep Ablett on and I also stand by my original statements that I am happy with his last couple of games and have no issue with the contribution he's making or his selection. You may disagree.
I don't think Laidlaw is fully right, has some hamstring issues, and not sure about Thornton but they are different types of players so am sure the decisions on selections take that into account.Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 10 August 2009, 10:00 AM.Comment
