Look, just because John Longmire isn't as good looking as Roosy doesn't mean he can't be a fantastic coach. I'd rather keep him as he has the respect of everyone in the club that matter.

I was rather hoping this succession takes place, and that perhaps Kirky would set up as an assistant. HOWever, having watched Heath James doubling as a sideline coach as well as a runner, I am wondering whether or not he would fit in to the reserves side, and Frosty or more likely Fruity be upgraded to a senior assistant.

I have no probelm at all with Andrew Ireland as CEO. His work with Brisbane was first rate, and I thought we had a complete coupe when he came down here.

          Watch this space.

Completely under-whelmed by this announcement. In fact bitterly disappointed. The Swans are growing more and more like an insular, jobs for the boys Club. Watch Membership levels fall even further in 2011.

              So did Wayne Brittain.

Handing over is a much more risk free prospect to me.
The worst case scenario is that the team will play a little less well under Longmire.
Not opposed to a new coach from outside the club, but with all that is changing in teh Swans, I'd see Longmire as a good prospect to keep things moving positively.

Gee give him a chance. Surely someone with inside knowledge (don't forget Roos was assistant at Sydney with Eade) has a better chance than a complete outsider plus we will need someone that knows and wants to be in Sydney to fight off the new West Sydney team. I reckon Kirk may end up being an assistant at sometime cos he just bleeds the bloods!

So we're going to go from a "defensive" game to an "offensive" game.

                    Here come the goals!!!!!

Maybe Lyon was the architect of the defensive game.

Why has an 'Insider' a better chance? Clarkson, Matthews, Thompson were all 'Outsiders' that coached teams to flags. Longmire may welll be a fine choice for the Swans but so may have several other available candidates - surely it would have been prudent to at least talk to others.

I'm guessing the thought of losing Horse to the Roos is behind this...

I think it's better to the sort of insecurity that the Tigers and North are going through at present.

Or the pi$$ing competition there will be over at the pies next year.

Or Roos staying on and becoming more stale in the role.

Longmire will want to stamp his own brand of coaching and that may be invigorating. After all, look how Lyons developed the Swans' game plan.

It's not like members have a say in the Club anyway so I don't know why people would start complaining about due process, prudence, etc let alone expect to have an influence.

Personally though, I'll be happy with a handover.

as long as there is a change in game plan to move forward with the rest of the competition i'm all for it but was still a little dissapointed that we aren't at least going to look at other candidates for the job.

I wonder if those with negative views would have thought the same if former Roos protege Ross Lyon got the gig - if he was still here, that is.

I don't have a problem with this. I'm sure due consideration has been given to the implications of the descision on the club as a whole.

                                Congrats John.
