    Time to bite the Bullet

What has been the best thing about the last part of the season? Personally I think it is the fact that some youngsters are getting a go! Bring em on & stop playing blokes old & young who continually make the same blues.
As much as Leo Barry is one of my favourite footballers the time had come & I am glad he recognised it, just a pity he couldn't get up for just one more for a good old fashioned Swans send off.

The time has come to start getting rid of some deadwood. By the way Roosie is wrong, you do have to have a couple of years out of the 8 to come back stronger unless u r living in the '90's & r Kevin Sheedy ala bomber babies who he traded from other clubs as top 20 draft picks for old hacks. Noone is going to fall for that today so u need a couple of years in the wilderness to get good draft picks.

If Ryan O'Keefe is set on ending his career in Melb then put him up for auction now so we can get someone to give us their first 2 draft picks for him, forget about money lets get youth & potential talent. We probably won't make the finals but our young blokes have done well.

Some players that frustrate me are Roberts-Thompson, Mattner, Richards & Barlow. They can all do the brilliant things but they have all come up with some of the worst plays of the year. Barlow's disposal is only 50/50 at best, Teddy's decision making is sometimes not so good & he thinks about it too much, Joch Kennedy once said don't think do. The reason Marty Mattner doesn't often beat the flag waver is that his decision making in tight spots is crap. Great when he hasnt got the pill but if he makes a split second decision close your eyes as he could just hand the oponent the ball. Roberts-Thompson is better if he just does it & like Teddy just don't think Robby do! Everytime he has too much time hwe stuffs it, usually on instinct he is good. He also seems easily confused.

Shaw is another one who makes some clangers & even though he is playing probably his best footy he still gives me the jitters. In his early days at Caringbush he stuffed up constantly, he has improved but needs to be even better.

All these blokes & a half dozen others would be under review at the end of the season so I hope the pull their socks up. The Swans need to clean house before 2011 when the Gold Coast come in & I am telling you that the people of the Mid North & North Coast's are already preparing to cross to the new team.

    "Round up the usual suspects."
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Don't agree at all with the criticism of Shaw, Richards and LRT.

In reality, the brain fades for Richards have been confined to a few games this season and LRT has developed into a quality defender. It's definitely a forwards competition at the moment and whilst he gives away some soft free kicks, so do most backmen because they are largely limited in what they can do to spoil a mark.

Shaw does turn the ball over sometimes, but his value running of thr half back and the drive he gives us going forward, vastly outweighs this aspect of his game.

If you want to talk deadwood, I'd be looking to "move on" Buchanan and Ablett for starters, then maybe Schmidt and DOK.

Shaw hits far more targets than he misses. When you're picking up 25 touches a game and taking on the zone, you're gonna find yourself under pressure a fair bit. Of our major ballwinners, he's been one of our better players in terms of clangers and disposal efficiency. Though he's averaging 2.4 clangers a game, as a percentage of his disposals that's about 9.9%. Goodes is at 11.3%, as is ROK. Not a massive difference, but shows he's doing better than some.

each of the players you target are not only improving almost every game they play but they are also each taking on some of the harder tasks given to backmen and utility players. shaw is providing 20-230% of our bacline run. lrt is providing a similar amount of our last-gasp stoppage. barlow has done some crap this year to be sure, but his last few game have shown that he may yet possess the decisiveness, awareness and skill to match his fitness and athleticism. teddy still gives more of himself than most of afl players.

kennedy's address was at half-time when all hope was lost in a losing grand final by the way.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Or you mean like Paul Roos and his 2005 premiership winning team...just one year out of the 8 (2002)....

I do. But probably not so much with Shaw. I don't want to bag Ted because of his injury, but Shaw as a running backman does make him look a bit redundant. Plus, its his 1st season with us and he's learning the team dynamics. Richards and LRT are just dead gormless sometimes. And they've had plenty of gametime to show their wares.

True? I am planning to retire about 40 minutes drive from Carara and was thinking the GC would have to be my second team after the Swans. These people cannot have been dedicated fans!

                          Mattner is good.

                          Richards is good.

                          LRT is good.

Shaw is good, though he does concern me.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

If the people of the mid north coast are basing their decision on whether the swans have a cleanout then good bye. Your better off following the GC team as it will be teaming with young untried and unproven players who could possibly perform at AFL level. See you in five years when they are at the level needed to try for a premiership.

There is very few players that will go other than by natural attrition at the end of the year (barry, crouch, oloughlin, fosdike, hall, kenneally). Probably playfair, maybe Buchanan, maybe ablett and possibly a couple of younger guys like brabazon, dok or schmidt but i wouldnt dream of getting rid of LRT, shaw or mattner and richards is at least as good as a this stage as grundy etc.
