I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Veteran Melbourne Demons forward Russell Robertson will quit the struggling AFL club at the end of this season, but wants to play on in 2010.
After 13 seasons and 226 games, the 30-year-old and the club have agreed to part ways.
However, Robertson said on Thursday he would nominate for the 2009 AFL national draft and 2010 pre-season drafts.
The high-flying spearhead has kicked 422 goals, the fourth-highest total in the club's history behind David Neitz (631), Norm Smith (546) and Garry Lyon (426).
Robertson made his debut with Melbourne in round 20, 1997 and went on to win the club's best and fairest in 2003. He led the Demons' goalkicking in 2001, 2005 and 2007.
His appearances for the Demons have been sporadic in the past two years as he battled an Achilles tendon injury suffered in round 10, 2008 against Western Bulldogs.
He returned in round six this season against Geelong and has played 11 games this year, booting 23 goals.
