Let's not forget that not all players have the same status.

Amongst the big names Jolly & Fevola are still contracted for 2010 + so no deal doesn't mean you lose them for nix.

Burgoyne and Ball are not contracted for 2010 so can walk if no deal is done but might end up somewhere they don't want to be like Tankers, Wretchmond or yoho heave ho.

That puts Port and Saints under more pressure to make a deal than us and Carton.

On the flip side, the teams that want these uncontracted desirables don't have the high draft choices in the Pre Season so have to come to the party.

It happens every year, one or two big name deals stretch out until Friday then everyone else is rushed to get deals done and invariably some don't get done.

We all know who is holding up this years trading, they did it last year too and missed out badly then.

If we really have shown no interest at all I wonder where the rumours have come from.

It's not uncommon to have false rumours bounced around about a trade obviously, but for a trade, a contract length, contract dollars, the wife being consulted and having a set number of years with at least print and radio repoting on it too.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I wouldn't be surprised if Carlton were spreading the rumours to try and force the issue to a head.

Possibly, it just seems like quite a lot of different ones! Normally it'd just be the trade and maybe some "have chatted to him" as the standard rumours to roll out!

I think Carlton are desperate to get rid of him and are pushing.
What happens if no one wants him?
PSD or do the blues take him back?

A very good point - its not just being covered on sports type stations - but for WSFM, which gives AFL very little coverage, to have it on the 5am news this morning certainly made me jump out of bed (and thats not easy at that time of morning!)
god only knows whats going to happen - I have a funeral at 2pm Friday - can someone text me the result please? (yeah well - you know what I mean!)
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I really hope we get fevola. Sydney will discipline him and make sure he doesn't get out of on line off and on field. What would be worse being a dickhead off field or a dickhead on field. Im sure you would rather a play who is a dickhead off field, unlike bazza who cost us the finals during the hawthorn match. Fev got pissed at the brownlow because he hadnt drunk all year give some credit to him but its still not good enough i know. If the jolly swap goes through and we get pick 14 who could be a future star we shuld keep him who will definetly benefit us instead of fevola. but if we can swap 2 of our lower draft picks for fevola then id be more than happy with that outcome.

                            Mumford, bizarrely enough.

They're going to pay over the odds for mediocre players and then have trouble re-signing players when their contracts expire.

Logic says pick 39 to Sydney, but you never know.

Swans site implies pick 39 went with Staker to Brisbane.

It's doing my head in, too. According to the Herald Sun, there is a trade of :

                              7. The Sydney Swans on-trade its Round Three selection (currently number 47) to the Brisbane Lions for its Round Three on-traded selection (currently number 39).

Goodness knows why that is sitting there as a stand-alone trade, but there you go...

Trade of pick 47 for 39

You have to assume that we knew we were going to get pick 47 from the Bulldogs before we finalised the 3 way trade with WC and Brisbane, and so did the other parties to the trade, but couldn't officially announce before it was formally ours. Once the Hall deal was consumated, then the pick swap became official. Perhaps the pick swap was made contingent on the Hall for pick 47 coming good, but was not enough reason to hold up a deal involving 3 clubs.
