    12th in Season 2009

Despite being held in 11th place for almost the entirely of the second half of season 2009, the Swans ended up finishing 12th, just 0.16 of 1 percent behind our great rivals from the West. If Sydney had got just 4 extra game points, (or West Coast 4 less game points), the Swans would have finished 11th. (It is a little ironical when you think back to Sydney's only close win of this season).

Except for bragging rights it is stangely not a bad thing.

Firstly, at least Sydney still retains their record held since the introduction of the 16 team competition back in 1995 and a total of 15 seasons, not to finish bottom 4 or bottom quarter of the ladder. (Only Geelong shares that distinction).

Secondly, subject to the October trade deals, Sydney now will get a number 6 pick in the draft, only the second time in over a decade that they have got a top 6 pick.

Too bad Pick 6 has historically been a not too flash player.

Pick 7 was where it is at.

    Time to change history.

It's the "subject to trade deals" part that I'm worried about.

If we have brains we will use the 6 to trade up and out.

Well as MickyO said, we have played in 3 grand finals in 14 years. That is a pretty huge effort for any club. Even better than most of them.

We have Pick 5. I discuss it in other thread.

Even Game Day on 7 this morning show Swans beloiw West Coast and 5th from the bottom.

We have pick 6 unless the Dees win today, or we trade it away, or a club below us gets done for salary cap breaches.

              11. West Coast 8W-14L, For/Against 1893/2029, 93.30%
              12. Sydney 8W-14L, For/Against 1888/2027, 93.14%

That's insane, considering you couldn't split the teams after the 2005/2006 finals!
