Sydney also locked in Nick Smith to a new two-year deal as the club wasted no time rebuilding for 2010.
Good luck to the Irishman, but this is more significant news from the article.

How about Swan commenting on the Swans while Roos talks of the Roos? If there was nominative determinism guess who Tom Hawkins would play for . . .

            Ireland???
            Really???

How about somewhere closer to home where you wouldn't have to do as much work to turn them into something of a half decent AUSSIE RULES player?

            Somewhere like Central Australia perhaps??

Micky - pack your bags and go looking.

Aaron Sandilands would be the best person to scour the deserts of Central Australia. Sorry...

Andrew Ireland said he would be delighted if he could be as good as the Swans' popular former Irish favourite son, Tadhg Kennelly
I'd be stoked if he lasted more than two years.

And more than happy to welcome a 20yo to the fold, and not an 18yo. Seems to be more in sync with the possibilities. Well its not cutting anyone out, and may prove a good move. Why not!

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

That said, I hope he's handsome and stays a while and doesn't bald before he's 26 (I realize the last part's not likely!).

I wouldn't let an Irishman hear you describe him as a Brit, if I were you.

And sad as I was - for selfish reasons - to see the Balding One depart, it is the most recent one to pull up stumps that has me particularly disappointed. I had high high hopes - and expectations - for young Murphy and am very disappointed that he didn't stick it out for longer, particularly as even just a month ago he was writing in his Irish column about how determined he still was to crack it at senior AFL level.
